Upgrades are needed for Regina’s new emergency shelter

A Request for proposal says the city is looking to add 2,000 square feet to the new emergency shelter.
City Hall Regina Oct. 2022
The city is looking for a contractor to renovate the emergency shelter located at 1600 Halifax Street.

After it was decided last year that the new location of Regina’s new emergency shelter would be 1600 Halifax Street, the location of the Eagles Club, it now appears the building needs renovations.

In a Request for Proposals document, it states the city is looking for a general contractor to reconstruct the new emergency shelter site. Part of the renovations would be adding a 2,000 square foot addition to the building.

The contractor awarded would be required to complete the renovations by July 10. The timing of that date coincides with the city lease of the temporary shelter at "The Nest," set to expire five days later on July 15.

According to the city, there is a pre-submission meeting being held today, Jan. 15, on-site for any interested proponents.
