REGINA - Residents of Regina are being warned about scammers posing as the Regina Police Service (RPS).
The RPS said the calls, referred to as an "Emergency Scam," will claim to the person that their loved one is in danger.
After the caller tells the person a scenario, the scammer will claim to be someone they know and ask for money.
People are warned never to send any money by mail, e-transfer, credit cards or cryptocurrency by a person over the phone.
In the event the scammer claims someone will come to their door, the RPS asks residents to call their local police service immediately. The RPS also said not to give any money to the person who comes to the door, as scammers will urge people to make a decision they would not usually make.
Anyone who has been a victim of fraud or believes a person is trying to defraud others is asked to contact the police at 306-777-6500 or call 9-1-1 in case of an emergency.
