The Saskatchewan Roughriders Labour Day Classic game runs Sept. 1.
REGINA - The Regina Police Service is advising the public to expect game-day traffic on the roads in Regina, as people come out to the Labour Day Classic game.

The Labour Day Classic returns as the Winnipeg Blue Bombers get set to take on the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. on Sept. 1. The regular game-day road closures will be in effect around Mosaic Stadium before and after the game.

The Regina Police Service is asking motorists and pedestrians to follow directions, have patience and be courteous to other users of the road.

On game day, the following road closures will be in effect three hours prior to kickoff: Beginning at 2 p.m. on Sept. 1, there will be no vehicle traffic allowed on the 1500, 1600, and 1700 blocks of Elphinstone Street. Access will be limited to Regina Transit buses and local residents only. People may be asked to show that they are a local resident, e.g. by providing their home address on identification or correspondence.

Fans and motorists will find road closures on: the 1500 block of Elphinstone Street at Dewdney Avenue; Princess Street and 9th Avenue; Argyle Street and 9th Avenue; McTavish Street and 9th Avenue; Elphinstone Street and 9th Avenue; Montague Street and 10th Avenue; Elphinstone Street and North Railway Street; and Saskatchewan Drive and Elphinstone Street.

Police are also reminding people that if they choose to drink, they should not drive. Instead, they can take the bus, call a cab or ride-share, or use a designated driver.

If you park, remove all valuables from your vehicle and lock the doors. There will be additional police patrols around the stadium during games to deter theft from vehicles and theft of vehicles, but it is always better to remove or reduce the opportunity for crime.

Respect the neighbourhood. Mosaic Stadium is in a residential neighbourhood, and visitors should always ensure they park their vehicles legally, refrain from littering, smoke in designated areas, and respect the property of others.

"As much as we love the rivalry between the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Winnipeg Blue Bombers, please be courteous to everyone attending the game," the police said.

As the Labour Day Classic falls on a long weekend, officers working around the city on Sunday and throughout the weekend will also be paying close attention to potential impaired drivers on the road.

"Stay safe, and go Riders!" the police added.
