REGINA - A Moose Jaw man has been charged over the 2021 death of an inmate at the Regina Correctional Centre.
Saskatchewan RCMP says that on Feb. 8, 2021, a 38-year-old male inmate at the Regina Correctional Centre went into medical distress and was later declared deceased.
Saskatchewan RCMP’s General Investigation Section investigated the male’s death in consultation with the Saskatchewan Coroners Service and it was determined an adult male provided cocaine to the deceased prior to him going into medical distress.
As a result of further investigation and consultation with Crown prosecutors, on Jan. 6, 42-year-old Mitch Schoffer from Moose Jaw was charged with one count of manslaughter and one count of trafficking cocaine.
He appeared in Regina Provincial Court on Jan. 20
