REGINA - A Regina man, who was set to stand trial later this year for second degree murder, instead pleaded guilty to criminal negligence causing death.

Ethan Sunshine, 28, appeared in Regina Court of King’s Bench Monday, where he admitted to criminal negligence causing death, with the remaining counts against him, including the second degree murder charge, stayed by the Crown.

He was sentenced to 2,922 days jail time, though after receiving credit for time already served, he’ll spend another 2,224 days in prison going forward.

He also received a lifetime weapon prohibition, and he must provide a DNA sample.

In April of last year, RCMP received a report of an injured female at a home in Punnichy.

Kihaw Fox, 31, of the Piapot First Nation, was pronounced dead at the scene.
