MOOSE JAW -- The Moose Jaw Mustangs got off to the start they were hoping for in their opening game of the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Sask Lacrosse League U17 division on Wednesday night.
Taking on the Weyburn Panther Drilling Thrashers at the Kinsmen Arena, the defending league champions rolled to a 13-2 victory on the opening night of SSLL competition league-wide.
Things didn’t go as well for two other Moose Jaw teams, as the Mustangs Red fell 11-4 to the Weyburn Credit Union Thrashers in the U11 division and the Regina Chaos Green took a 7-2 win over the Mustangs in the U13 division.
U17 Mustangs 13, Weyburn 2
Moose Jaw got off to a solid start with a 3-0 lead after the first period and would add five goals in each of the second and third frames to secure the commanding win.
Caiden Arnott led the offence with five goals and six points, while Chase Folk and Kashton Smith each picked up two goals and four points.
Luke Pratt, Jake Arnold, Ryder Seiferling and Spencer Jameson scored the Mustangs other goals.
Hayden Tuer picked up three assists, while Brett Bowerin had a pair of helpers.
Andrew Charlton and Emmett Gill scored for Weyburn.
U11 Weyburn 11, Mustangs Red 4
The Mustangs found themselves right in the hunt after the first period, only trailing by a goal 4-3, but Weyburn scored four unanswered in the second period and added three more in the third to pull away.
Kaleb Meadows and Kenna Williams had a goal and assist each for Moose Jaw, with Ace Bellefeuille and Indie Bellefeuille picking up single markers.
Ryder Moon and Bennet Baumgartner each scored four for the Thrashers, Lucas Lieppi, Gabe Sharpe and Jake Wig had their other goals.
U13 Regina Chaos Green 7, Mustangs 2
After a back-and-forth start to the game, Regina scored a pair of goals late in the first to build a 4-1 lead before adding a pair in the second to go up 6-1.
Kayden Howes scored for Moose Jaw in the first period, Blake Smith had their other goal in the third.
Jenson Boschman topped the Chaos Green with a hat trick, while William Holzer picked up two goals and four points. Ryder Korchinski and Quinn Hillmer also scored for Regina.

The U11 Mustangs Black and Red both play a pair of games at the Kinsmen Arena in Moose Jaw, with the Black taking on the Rampage Rowdy at 11:15 a.m. and Rampage Bruisers at 3:15 p.m. The Red face the Bruisers at 12:15 p.m. and Rowdy at 3:15 p.m.
The U13 Mustangs are in Weyburn and faces the Security Thrashers at 9 a.m. and Young’s Equipment Thrashers at 11:45 a.m.
The U15 Mustangs are in Swift Current and face the Rampage at 11:30 and 3 p.m.
The U17 Mustangs are also in Swift Current and take on the Rampage at 1 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
