Moerike, Akins come away with Lynbrook Club Championship men’s and women’s titles

MOOSEJAWTODAY.COM -- A solid first round and steady golf in the second helped propel Scott Moerike to the Lynbrook Golf Club men’s club championship on Sunday afternoon.

Moerike recorded a three-under-par 68 during the opening round on Saturday and followed up with a second-round 73 for a 141 total and the overall title.

With handicaps factored in, Don McDonald recorded the low net with a total of 124.

Scott McGregor claimed the men’s first flight, shooting 82 and 82 for a 164 total, which fell to 67 and 67 once his 15 handicap was factored in.

The ladies club championship was won by Ethel Akins, who carded 91 in the opening round and 96 in the second to total 187. Cindy Cooper had the low net of 152.

Jeff Fowlie won the senior club championship (76-72-148), with Scott Brownlee (68-66-134, 19 handicap) claiming the first flight.

Terry Schick had a couple of solid rounds (70-76-146) to win the Super Senior division, while Alex Cameron (73-67-170, 29 handicap) won the first flight.

The next major event at the Lynbrook will see the return of the popular Carl Jorgensen Par-27 tournament during the Sept. 7 weekend. The event is limited to 64 golfers, with registration taking place on Aug. 14 at 6 p.m. in the Lynbrook clubhouse. Players are guaranteed three games, with an $80 registration fee.
