CENTRAL BUTTE — Fifteen years ago, April’s Diner opened in Central Butte. Since then, its story and characters have changed. Reopening as April’s and celebrating 15 years, the new owner of April’s, Nirav Surani, wants to welcome you to come and taste the traditional and exotic flavours from Chef Mangesh Sanwari, who originates from Mumbai.

Nirav, Mangesh and Vansh have all studied business and worked in the hospitality industry for many years.

Nirav arrived in Vancouver in 2012 and began his Canadian life here as a student. He worked his way to become a citizen.

“This country has given me so much more than I could have ever have imagined. It's taught me independence, confidence, generosity, humility, hard work, and determination and, above all, it's given me hope. That hope has been my springboard to success, propelling me forward every step of the way,” he explained.

“I have a three-year course with a Bachelor of Science in hospitality and local administration,” Mangesh explains.

He says he is looking forward to running the diner and serving the community.

Vansh Shadev from Delhi, the youngest member of the team, was a student in Toronto. With a call to his brother, he now has the opportunity to work with Nirav and Mangesh.

“And now, this guy. (referring to Vansh), my school friend phoned me and said, ‘My younger brother is in Canada and wants to learn business. He just started his career in the hospitality industry. Do you know of any opportunities?’” Nirav says.

“I said, ‘I sure have. This is the right time. I just bought a restaurant.’”

Nirav found the listing for 231-Main St. in Central Butte and began researching the diner’s history. Calling friends and family together, Mangesh was brought on board to cook. While in Toronto, Vansh was looking for a new adventure. With steely determination and his dream team, they set out for the Canadian prairie.

The menu consists of American-style and some East Indian dishes. Appetizers include spring rolls, samosas, or coconut or breaded shrimp. Main dishes like pasta, steak and Indian specialties like chicken tikka masala or paalak paneer. Mild or spicy, whatever your preference, the guys are happy to oblige. Traditional burgers and fries, poutine and clubs are on the menu as well.

Everyone is welcome to come to 231-Main St., Central Butte. For parties, birthdays, celebrations and milestones, book the room and save yourself the dishes. The phone number is 306-313-5277.
