Weyburn library to host spring book sale, art by silent auction

A highlight for the Weyburn Public Library in April will be the spring book sale and silent auction of donated art works, on April 18-20.

WEYBURN – Several activities and programs are lined up for April at the Weyburn Public Library, with the highlight being the spring book and art sale, set for April 18-20.

Donations of books are being taken right up until today, April 17, and the sale will run during library hours. On Thursday, April 18, the sale runs from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.; 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Friday, April 19; and 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 20.

The sale will include books in fiction and non-fiction, hard cover and soft cover, for children, teens and adults, along with magazines, DVDs, TV series, audiobooks, CDs and puzzles.

Activities for children include a chef’s class to make ham and cheese pockets; the class for ages six to eight is on Tuesday, April 23, and for ages nine to 12 is on Monday, April 22, both at 4 p.m.

A music and craft session for both age groups will be held on Thursday, April 25, to make a basic percussion drum and a cherry blossom in a vase.

The Tween book club (ages nine to 12) will talk about the book, The Secret Garden, by Frances Hodgson Burnett, on Friday, April 26.

There will also be a class in basic origami on Saturday, April 27, for all ages, starting at 2:30 p.m. Children who are 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

For teens, there is a class in vinyl mandalas, where teens can paint a mandala design on an old vinyl record. This class is on Tuesday, April 23 at 6 p.m.

For the teen-and-caregiver program, there is a food safety course, Part 2, on Wednesday, April 24 at 6 p.m., and a class in making chicken tikki masala, on Tuesday, April 30 at 6:30 p.m.

For adults, there will be an art and craft class in Rangoli on Thursday, April 25 at 6:30 p.m., with instructor Fatema Khanbhai.

A craft supply swap will be held on Saturday, April 27 at 10:30 a.m.

A presentation on relating to dementia and memory loss will be held on Wednesday, April 24 at 10 a.m., presented by Erica Matthews.

For those interested in technology, there will be class in Fusion 360 on design, with Sawn Rad, on Tuesday, April 23 at 6:30 p.m. For this class, students must bring their own device, and have basic computer skills.

A games night will be held on Tuesday, April 30 at 6:30 p.m.
