Teachers, shown during a one-day strike in January, will withdraw all extra-curricular activities in the week leading up to the Easter break, plus there will be no noon-hour supervision on March 25 for all Holy Family schools.

WEYBURN – The Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation (STF) gave notice on Friday they will withdraw all extracurricular activities from Monday to Thursday, March 25-28, leading up to the Easter break.

In addition, they will withdraw noon-hour supervision in six school districts, including for the schools in the Holy Family Roman Catholic Separate School Division, on Monday, March 25.

The withdrawal of extracurricular activities means teachers will provide no voluntary services in the organization, supervision or facilitation of activities including athletics, non-curricular arts, field trips, student travel, graduation preparations, school clubs and other activities.

The withdrawal of noon-hour supervision means teachers are not available to supervise students who are eating lunch at school or taking part in noon-hour activities.

The STF noted they had a crowd of around 6,000 people at the Legislature on Wednesday on budget day, which was also a one-day province-wide strike.

“This is the longest-ever job action by Saskatchewan teachers, but we would halt sanctions immediately if government would either agree to binding arbitration on the single issue of class size and complexity, or provide the Government-Trustee Bargaining committee with a mandate that includes that issue,” said Samantha Becotte, president of the STF.

“The withdrawal of extracurricular activities during the four days leading up to spring break demonstrates that teachers remain steadfast in their call for sustainable funding for prekindergarten to Grade 12 education,” she added.
