William Edward Grohn, born October 11, 1914 passed away peacefully March 9, 2016. Willie was predeceased by his parents, William and Daly (Schwartz) Grohn; sons, Terry Grohn and Brian Grohn; wife, Ruth (McGowan) Grohn; brother, Milo Grohn; sisters, Elsie Fellner, Emma Wedin and Mable McGowan. William will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Wendy Leah and family: Casey (Suzanne) Glimm and son, Connor, Jodi (Ivan) Ottenbreit and sons; Karl and Nathan, daughter, Carole McGowan and family: son, Ari Wahl (Miles) and daughter, Leah Wahl; daughter-in-law, Marie Grohn and family: son, Aaron (Angela) Grohn and family: Julie and Jett Grohn, Jordyn and Jesse Thompson; son, Bud (Susan) Grohn and family: Alexis Grohn (Jay Uhrich) and their family: Daemon Patrick, Justin and Nya Uhrich; Kristopher Grohn as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends. William Grohn, more commonly known as Willie, Bill or W.E., to everyone close, lived life to the fullest. With a character of strong will and determination he persevered the challenge of life from 1915 through 2016. Willie’s life experiences included family, sports, small business in Weyburn, farming on the homestead in Hume, SK and many more. His life passions were music and thoroughbred horse racing. Many stories have been told by Willie about traveling by car, bus or train throughout Western Canada playing professional music in a band, his instruments of choice were the Alto Sax, Tenor Sax and Clarinet. As Bill’s talent and desire grew into horse racing he traveled throughout North America racing horses and had become a well-respected trainer in the business. Up to the age of 80 he could be caught on the farm sitting on a bale upon a sheet of plywood breaking a race horse and up to the age of 101 he told stimulating stories about his travels throughout Canada and the US leaving out little detail of his adventures. Bill enjoyed spending time with family, grandchildren and great grandchildren particularly watching hockey and other activities. Dad, Uncle, Grandpa, Great Grandpa lived a long healthy active life and will be dearly missed. A Private Family Memorial Service was held at Fletcher Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, with Reverend John Ferrier officiating. Interment took place at Griffin Cemetery.
