William (Dale) Roberts

William (Dale) Roberts, born November 26, 1947, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2012 at the age of 65 years. Dale was the fourth of eight children born to Bill and Anne Roberts. He was raised on the family farm and resided in Khedive, where he attended school. Once he was old enough to move off the farm, he moved to Regina and started work at SGI as a claims adjuster. During this time he was introduced to Cheryl Spear, who later became his wife. One weekend in 1974, Dale accompanied his father on a trip to Weyburn for a couple days to visit some long-time friends. That weekend he applied for a job at Great Plains Ford, a local dealership. He was hired and began his ideal career in car sales within the week. Dale and Cheryl were married in September of that year, and were blessed with three wonderful children, Mark, Jolene, and Sheri. Dale worked at Great Plains Ford for a number of years before deciding to change venues. He was hired on with the Dreis Brothers until they closed. It was then he started at the Co-op and worked in numerous departments, including the hardware store, farm and home centre and the grocery store. When Redcoat Chrysler opened, Dale was offered a position and jumped at the chance to get back into car sales. Working as a salesman gave him the opportunity to travel to different locations and get to know people all over southern Saskatchewan. After 12 years at Redcoat he resigned. This was due to the effects of his disease, Rheumatoid Arthritis. Although he suffered immensely, Dale always had a smile and a joke to tell. He was known for his sense of humour. Dale was introduced to music at a very young age. His parents and older siblings played instruments which sparked his interest. He began singing and was self-taught on the guitar. Dale became an avid guitar player and became the lead guitarist in several bands for Weyburn and surrounding areas. As a member of the Legion, Dale spent a fair amount of time playing pool. He played in tournaments whenever possible. He took great pride in the appearance and condition of his property, so he spent most of his home time out in the yard. Whether it was re-painting the house, mowing the lawn, or watering the garden, he loved it all. Woodworking was another one of his many hobbies. He spent time in the garage making windmills, picture frames and clocks. When they were completed he would quite often hang them in the house, or would give them away as gifts. Dale enjoyed fishing, bike riding and camping with his family and friends. He had a great life, filled with joy and success, and was surrounded by everyone he held dear. He will be missed by many. Dale was predeceased by his father, William Cecil Roberts of Pangman; father-in-law, George Spear and mother-in-law, Ruth Spear of Indian Head. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 38 years, Cheryl Roberts of Weyburn; son, Mark (Brenda) Roberts of Weyburn, and their children, Kris of Regina, Megan (Evan) and her son Cohen of Weyburn, Jade and Braydon, of Weyburn; daughter, Jolene (Chris) Gillespie and their children, Evan and Gracen, of Weyburn; daughter, Sheri (Rod) MacDonald and their children, Mitchell and Jaycee, of Cedoux; mother, Anne Roberts of Weyburn; brothers and sisters, Gerry (Alfred) Thompson of Weyburn, Ed (Leanne) Roberts of Regina, Joanne (Steve) McCheyne of Regina, Angie (Glen) Kotopski of Regina, Gwen (Ron) Sweeney of Bengough, Ray (Angie) Roberts of Weyburn, and Lorrie (Clayton) Kessler of Pangman; brother in law, Marv (Julie) Spear, Medicine Hat, AB; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
