Walter Edward Johnston passed away on January 27, 2014 at the age of 98 years. Walter is predeceased by his parents Robert and Mary; brothers: Ray and Norman; sisters: May Arnett and Ruth Johnston. Walter is survived by his daughter Pat (Marvin) Sampson, Oungre; granddaughter Sheri (Shannon) Luoma, Saskatoon; grandson Shawn Sampson, Oungre; great grandson's: Mason, Easton and Kylen Luoma; Saskatoon; as well as nieces and nephews. Walter was born in the Mayflower School District near Alameda on July 25, 1915, the oldest son of Robert and Mary (Middleton) Johnston. At the age of five he moved with his family to Alameda where they had a dairy and dray business. Walter received his education in the old Alameda school. Walter started to farm on his own in 1935 on his grandfathers farm. In 1942 he married Winnie Hine and they lived on the farm until 1954 when they moved into Alameda. In July 1949 their daughter Patsy Anne was born. Walter farmed all his life, helped veterinarians, drove school bus for many years and he also worked on a wireline service. Winnie passed away in November 1983. Walter continued to live in Alameda and farm until 1994. In January 2004 he moved to the Bow Valley Villa in Oxbow where he resided until he moved to the Weyburn Special Care Home in January 2013. Direct cremation. There will be a family graveside service at a later date. For family and friends so wishing donations in memory of Walter may be made to a charity of choice.
