Valda Mary Goski passed away peacefully in hospital September 16, 2016. Valda is survived by daughter, Camille Goski of Weyburn; son, Joe (Barbara) Goski of Ottawa, ON; grandchildren: Joe, Robin and Father Tavis Goski; sister, Lillian Kutarna of Regina; sister-in-law, Leona McLean of Regina; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, John Kazmierz Dorosz and Jadwiga Dorosz; son, Reginald Goski; brother, Edmund Dorosz; sisters-in-law: Rosie Wilkie, Annie Borys, Mary Lucyk, Angeline Brown, Elizabeth Bileski and Stephania Dorosz; brothers-in-law: John Goski, John Wilkie, Mike Borys, John Lucyk, Bill Brown, John Bileski, Wayne McLean, and Henry Kutarna; and by her father- and mother-in-law, John and Anastasia Goski. Born in 1923, the youngest of three children, Valda completed her schooling in Cedoux and moved to Regina for a business course from Reliance Business College. She worked for the Saskatchewn Government in the Game Branch before returning to Cedoux in the late 1940’s. She married Joe Goski in 1950, a marriage that lasted over 60 years, producing three children and three grandchildren. They farmed at Cedoux and, after 1960, ran the general store there. Valda became postmaster at Cedoux in 1969 and held that position until 1986 when she and Joe retired to Weyburn. Valda was a woman of great faith. She trusted God in good times and bad. Her faith helped her to receive her blessings with gratitude and to bear her grief and disappointments with strength. Valda cherished her family; she nurtured, taught and encouraged them to live honourably and generously. Valda believed in contributing to her community: in Cedoux, she translated for recent Polish immigrants, was the church organist and belonged to the Altar Society; in retirement, she donated an endless amount of knitted goods for premature babies and other causes. And always, she visited the sick and the grieving. Prayers were held Wednesday, September 21, at 6:00 p.m. led by Father Gerry Bauche at St. Vincent De Paul Roman Catholic Church. A Funeral Mass was celebrated for Valda Thursday, September 22, at St Vincent de Paul Parish, with Father Tavis Goski presiding and Father Francis Plaparampil preaching the homily. Interment followed at Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn. Pallbearers were: grandson, Joe Goski, cousin, Bernie Kot, and nephews, Dennis and Garnet Lucyk, Paul McLean and Andrew Polasek. All of her friends were honorary pallbearers. Thanks to Fr. Francis Plaparampil and Fr Gerry Bauche for ministering to Valda and her family; Dr Matiza, Dr Oberkirsch and the nursing staff at the Weyburn General Hospital; Fletcher’s Funeral Chapel for their considerate help; and to all relatives and friends who have comforted Valda’s family.
