Ruth Bernard passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 9, 2013, with her family at her side. She was predeceased by her husband, Willard Bernard in 1997; parents, Ernie and Ida Hanni; brother, Rudy Hanni, sister-in-law, Lois Hanni and brother-in-law, Bill DesJardins. Ruth was born August 13, 1936 in Trossachs. She attended school at North Brokenshell School and later Assiniboia School in Weyburn. Ruth worked for the Saskatchewan Telephone Company in the office as well as for the B.C. Telephone Company. Later she would return to Saskatchewan Telephones, where she worked until her marriage. In May of 1954 Ruth began dating Willard Bernard and on August 13th they were engaged. Ruth and Willard were married on October 29th of the same year and were together until Willard's passing in 1997. Ruth followed her husband, Willard, who worked for the oil companies. They lived in Alberta, Gainsborough, Carnduff, Alida and then back to Carnduff. Later they moved to Frobisher and finally to Yellow Grass where they remained for 25 years. In the summer of 1986 they would take up residence in Weyburn, where she remained until her passing. Ruth always enjoyed crocheting and knitting as well as drawing. For two years she drew impressive portraits of the grade 12 Yellow Grass graduating students. Ruth also spent time as a hairdresser in her own home. Ruth was a very special person who was loved by many. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Richard (Marie) Bernard of Airdrie, AB, Kenneth (Jeanne) Bernard of Regina, Maynard (Elana) Bernard of Balzac, AB, Linda (Glen) Sonnenberg of Weyburn and Jeanette Bernard (Duane) of Swift Current; 14 grandchildren, Devon Bernard, Shaun Bernard, Danny Bernard, Amanda Bernard, Erin Bernard, Justin Bernard, Krista Benoit (Bernard), Christopher Hillstead, Alana Hillstead, Travis Sonnenberg, Karlee Pederson (Sonnenberg), Sheldon Zagoury, Nathan Zagoury and Shannon Stephens (Zagoury); brothers and sisters, Bernard (Bunny) Hanni, Albert (Sandy) Hanni, Mertin (Marie) Hanni, Garry (Elizabetha) Hanni, Wildred (Anita) Hanni, Larry (Lori) Hanni, Irma (Harold) DesJardins and Esther DesJardins; sister-in-law, Phyllis (Lawrence) Wiemer as well as 15 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service was held Thursday, November 14 at 11:00 a.m. from Zion Lutheran Church, Weyburn with Pastor Martin Olson officiating. Interment followed at Green Acres Memorial Gardens, Weyburn.
