Rosie Victoria Kopec

Rosie Victoria Kopec passed away peacefully February 21, 2017 at the age of 85. Rosie was predeceased by her parents, Karol and Anna Plonka; husband, Leo Kopec of 63 years; sons, Ken and Rick Kopec; sisters, Stella Kopec, Anatazia Orlicka and Janice Plonka, and brothers, Cles Plonka, John Plonka and Emil Plonka. She was born July 23, 1931 at Fox Valley. Soon afterwards, the family moved to a farm two miles northeast of Cedoux. She received her grade 12 at Cedoux School and worked as an aide in the hospital at North Weyburn and later at Woolworth’s department store in Weyburn. In 1952 she married Leo Kopec and they enjoyed an incredible 63 years of marriage. Rosie was a farmer’s wife through and through – milking cows, hauling grain, tending a huge garden, and doing all of the chores that are a part of farm life. Together, Rosie and Leo raised six children – Ken, Debbie, Rick, Barry, Kelly, and Coralee. Family was always very important, with large family gatherings for every special occasion. In almost all photographs, Rosie is surrounded by friends or family. Rosie loved gardening – from beautiful flowers to an abundance of vegetables. She loved canning, and made the best sauerkraut which she used in her famous perogies. In 1991, Leo and Rosie retired to Weyburn where she had more time to pursue her hobbies. She loved knitting, crocheting, setting puzzles, and playing cards and bingo. Rosie enjoyed cheering on the Roughriders and the Bluejays, and she was also an avid armchair curler. She was kind and caring, and always willing to help anyone with anything. We will miss her great sense of humor and the way she could turn any frown into a smile. In 2012, Leo moved into the Weyburn Special Care Home. Rosie spent two years at Bison Manor and in 2015 she joined her husband at the care home. Rosie’s health slowly failed but her mind remained sharp right until her passing. A grandmother is someone who can take the place of all others, but whose place no one else can take. Rosie will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Debbie (Lynden) Guest of Trossachs; son, Barry (Sharon) Kopec of Cedoux; daughter, Kelly (Raymond) Paslawski of Cedoux; daughter, Coralee (Jerry) Ewanchyna of Saskatoon; daughter-in-law, Dorothy Kopec of Weyburn; grandchildren, Ron Kopec (Sylvanna), Michelle Sabourin, Gary (Sheena) Kopec, Tracy Kopec, Kevin (Trina) Kopec, Amanda Kopec, Michael Kopec, Christy (Jody) Duke, Stephanie Paslawski; Jenna Paslawski (Austin), Adam, Josh, Alisa Ewanchyna; 18 great grandchildren; brother, Matt (Betty) Plonka; sister-in-law, Kae McLellan and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Visitation was held Friday, February 24, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Fletcher Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, and the Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, February 25, at 11:00 a.m. from St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church, Weyburn, with Father Francis Plaparampil officiating. Interment followed at Cedoux Cemetery. Pallbearers were Gary Kopec, Ron Kopec, Kevin Kopec, Adam Ewanchyna, Joshua Ewanchyna and Jenna Paslawski. Donations in memory of Rosie may be made to Cedoux Cemetery & Building Board at Box 1299, Weyburn, Saskatchewan, S4H 3J9 or Weyburn Special Care Home.
