Rollen Lloyd Jones

Rollen Lloyd Jones, late of Weyburn, passed away February 27, 2014, at the age of 80 years. Rollen was predeceased by his parents Walter and Echo Jones; sister Georgie (Wally) Altwasser. Rollen is survived by his loving wife Patricia Jones, Weyburn; his children: Bryan (Rena) Jones, Weyburn, Dennis (Deanne) Jones, Weyburn, Wendy (Tim) Burr, Airdrie, AB; grandchildren: Dallas Jones, Alicia (Gavin) Thomas, Tyler (Shelley) Jones, Lyndee and Brennen (Amanda) Jones, Mason and Marshall Burr; great-grandchildren: Austin, Paige, Ashton, Abigail, Tori, Sydney, Cooper, Tanner; nephews and niece: Arlie (Darlene) Altwasser, Fred Altwasser, Amber (Marcel) Pelletier; as well as great-nieces and nephews. Rollen was born on the family farm northeast of Weyburn on August 3, 1933. At age 15 his father died of a heart attack and Rollen quit school to work the family farm along with help from his uncle Elmer. In October, 1957 he married Patricia Dillen, the love of his life, and they moved to an apartment in the city of Weyburn. Rollen started working for the Weyburn Hardware store that fall. Because natural gas was coming to the city he was asked to take classes to earn his Gas and Pipefitter license. In the spring he, along with his helper, installed about 100 furnaces. They worked long hours and with Pat sometimes working nights at the telephone office they often met each other at the door one coming from work and the other going to work. In the winter of 1959 they moved out to the family farm where Rollen continued to work for the Weyburn Hardware for the next five years. He also trucked gravel and fuel over the years to supplement the farm income. In 1972 he expanded the size of the farm and was planning to build a new house on the farm. With bad winter roads in 1973-74 that made it difficult for the school buses to run, they decided to build in town instead, so in the fall of 1974 they moved to the city of Weyburn where they lived until his passing. Rollen loved watching his grandchildren compete in their chosen sports. Many trips were made to watch Brennen curl at all levels including the Brier. Watching Mason and Marshall play hockey was also a great pastime for him. During the time Mason played with in the WHL he was also able to watch some games on television along with travelling to Regina and Moose Jaw to watch. After Pat retired as secretary-treasurer from the school division at the end of 1998, Rollen decided to sell the farm machinery and contract out the farming so they could do some travelling. They purchased a 5th wheel in the summer of 2000 and spent many summers travelling around the three prairie provinces. In 2007 a bigger 5th wheel was acquired so they could go to Arizona for three winter months. Unfortunately, as Rollen's health deteriorated they had to sell the trailer in 2009. Camping was something both Rollen and Pat enjoyed doing and were glad that they had the opportunity to spend a few years doing something they both loved. Rollen was a hard worker and farmed for over 50 years of his life. He was a caring husband, father and grandfather and will be sadly missed. Viewing for Rollen was held on Sunday, March 2 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at RD Family Funeral Chapel, Weyburn.
