Richard "Rick" John Roesslein


Richard "Rick" John Roesslein passed away peacefully Thursday, March 20, 2014 at the age of 66 years. Rick was predeceased by his parents, John and Mary Roesslein; son, Trevor Roesslein; brother, Gordon Mackechuk and sister, Frances Mackechuk. Rick was born in Regina on April 14, 1947 to John and Mary. He lived the first year of his life at Khedive after which the family moved to Weyburn. Growing up Rick spent many hours with his grandparents as both of his parents worked outside of the home. His grandpa owned a coal business and the family spent many fun times in the coal building. Rick attended Souris School and then the Weyburn Collegiate. His first job was at Laing's Beverages as a truck driver/salesman. On June 10, 1967 he married Faye Mitchell and together they raised one son. His selling career continued into retail sales with Gestetner photo copiers followed by carpet sales representative for many years. This took the family to Regina and later Saskatoon and eventually back to Weyburn. He also spent a few years driving gravel truck for the family business. In his later years, prior to his illness, Rick worked with his son, helping Trevor with farming operations. Rick was an active member of the Weyburn Elk's Club and the Kinsmen. In 1982 to 1983 Trevor played for the Youngfellow Peewee Hockey team where Rick was assistant coach and the team won the provincial championship. In his free time Rick enjoyed ice fishing, golfing and stock car racing. Rick played ball for many years with the Weyburn Cloverleafs and was an avid collector of vintage model cars. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 46 years, Faye Roesslein of Weyburn; grandchildren, Austin Roesslein, Trey Ebel, Cameron Roesslein and Reis Roesslein; daughter-in-law, Stacey (Korey McIver) Roesslein of Weyburn; sisters, Debbie Roesslein of Weyburn and Betty Dion of Regina; sister-in-law, Felicia Mackechuk of Fort Erie, ON; nieces and nephews, John Mackechuk, Krista Knox, Ronald Fradette and Carissa Thomson. A memorial service was held Wednesday, March 26 at 2:00 pm from Knox Presbyterian Church, Weyburn with Reverend John Ferrier officiating. Interment followed at Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn. Honourary Pallbearers were, Terry Schreder, Jack McCallum, Dave Bell, Randy Howe, Don Johnson and Bert Sanguin.
