Born December 10, 1969 in Weyburn, Randy left us in August, free to play all the music he wants, whenever he wants, forever. Randy is survived by his mom, Marlene Shaver of Magrath, AB, his dad, Randy Shaver of Britannia Beach, BC. Randy is a big brother to Amy (Tim Hayes), Nathan (Deb), Beccy (Rodger Mycroft), Charity (Doug Greenley), Sara (Des), Logan (Rose), Jordan. He is uncle to Sierra, Daniel, Eryn, Brooklynn, Robert, Stella and Cohen. Randy was predeceased by his grandpa, Herman Gurskey. He is survived by his grandma, Ida Gurskey of Ogema; grandpa and grandma, Norman and Stella Shaver of Bengough. Randy leaves behind many aunts, uncles and cousins who loved him and will miss him. Randy lived on his grandpa's farm in southern Saskatchewan, then moved to Lloydminster, Rivercourse, AB, Trossachs, Halbrite, Magrath, AB, and Lethbridge, AB, where he lived at the time of his passing. Music was his from the beginning. He had, and we still have his first rattle, a banjo. And although banjo wasn't in his music, it was the start. Three years old found him playing the "foo-foo", (harmonica) and dancing every chance he got. He then moved on to the plastic toy guitar. Finally, mom bought him his first real guitar, the acoustic, MANN, that is still here, covered in band stickers. After two guitar lessons of plucking one string continuously for half an hour he just said, "Mom, get me some books and I'll learn it myself." which he did and has been doing it himself ever since. Over the last 25 years Randy either started, or was in several bands, "Raging Few", "Tinkers Damn", "Zombie Birdhouse", "Ultraviolet Conspiracy" and "Fifteen Famous Minutes" to name a few. Whatever work he did was solely to support his music. From the people who love him, here are some of the words used to describe him. Big Soul, true patron of the arts, dedicated to his music, insightful, respectful, non-judgemental, kind, quiet and thoughtful spirit, gentle soul, authentic, made people feel valued, vulnerable, "fun as hell", genuine. There are a lot of "Randy quotes" like, "I definitely don't believe everything I think." Randy's ashes will be buried near his Grandpa Gurskey in Saskatchewan at a later date.
