Quinton Owen Patrick age 85 of Weyburn. Quint lived his early years in Weyburn and Regina and attended local schools. After Business College he worked at local accounting and business firms before working at the Saskatchewan Hospital in Weyburn, in 1951 - where he had a long and satisfying career. There he met nurse, Margaret Pilchar of Brandon, MB and they married in 1952. They raised three children in Weyburn and he was a wonderful husband and dad. He was an active member of the large hospital community and captained bowling teams, skipped curling rinks, coached men's softball, played in many card games and coordinated legendary Oktoberfests and St. Patrick's Day celebrations. He worked in accounting, payroll, finance and purchasing until retiring in 1982 and earned several long term service awards. Community service was important to him. He was active in BPOE Elks No. 370, Weyburn Kinsmen and K-40 Clubs and the Weyburn Credit Union. He held numerous positions in all organizations, and was honored as a long serving member of the board of directors of the Credit Union by having a scholarship named in his honor; he also received the Director Order of Merit Award in 2012. He was proud to name the book "Under The Dome" a history of the hospital published in 1986 and served on the committee as historian. He enjoyed playing and watching many sports, was an avid Rider fan, as well as a loyal follower of the NY Yankees, Boston Celtics and Notre Dame College football (the Fighting Irish, as he was very proud of his celtic ancestry). He was an avid duplicate bridge player frequently seen at the Wheatland on bridge nights, and was proud to have been the scorekeeper for Weyburn men's fastball teams and junior baseball teams for over a decade. His sense of humor was only eclipsed by his razor sharp mind which he kept honed by doing his ever present crossword or jigsaw puzzles, and Sudoku puzzles in recent years as well as almost never missing Jeopardy (or very many of the answers!). He and the family loved to travel and made many cross Canada trips to visit relatives and attend World's Fairs, Olympics, major sporting events and concerts. In retirement years he and Marg enjoyed trips to Alberta, the Okanagan and the west coast to visit children and relatives; and the east coast and Maritimes. They were most at home in Weyburn entertaining nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Quint may have been known as the strong silent type, but over the years almost every baby found a way to grandpa's lap, usually while he was deep in concentration over a puzzle with TSN on TV in the background (and dolls and dinosaurs strewn across the floor). In later years during his hospital stays he was always quick to joke with the nurses, and thank them for the care he received, even when not feeling his best. Quinton was predeceased by his father John Arden (Pat) Patrick; mother Margaret Davidson; step mother Mildred Pittman Patrick; beloved sister Sally Patrick Sigurdson; step-sister and brother-in-law Alberta Pittman McKenzie and Doug McKenzie; step brother and sister-in-law Bill and Agnes Pittman; other relatives; and no less by numerous cats and dogs who were cherished members of the family. Quinton is survived by his wife, Margaret Patrick; son, Colin Patrick and children, Travis (Jordan), Curtis (Jenna), Regan (Sarah), Logan; daughter, Myrna (Kevin) Fleury and children, Jonathan, Courtney; daughter, Kelly (Jim) Linnell and children, Ryan (Kim) Lawrence, Sara Lawrence, Steven Shorthouse, Casey Linnell, Jameson Linnell; five great grandchildren, Daemon, Chloe, Charli, Alice and Jace; step-sisters, Gerry Pittman Grandbois and Fran (Elmer) Pittman Franks as well as many nieces, nephews and other relatives. A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 from 7:00PM to 9:00PM at Fletcher Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, Saskatchewan. Funeral arrangements will be handled privately; no formal service is planned at his request. A memorial will be held in August.
