It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our cherished mother, grandmother and great grandmother on Thursday, January 16, 2013. Our mother passed away peacefully with her daughter, Bev Kulach, and son, Bryan Gibbs, by her side. Phyllis McGugan (Waddell) was born June 13, 1922 and raised west of Weyburn by Jean and Jim Waddell and attended the West Weyburn School. She had many wonderful memories of life with her sisters: Hazel, Helene and Shirley. She married Roy Gibbs and they began their lives together on the farm in McTaggart. Life on the farm was tough, but many Saturday nights were spent relaxing with friends and family. Unfortunately, she lost her partner, Roy, in 1967. At this time, she moved to Weyburn with Bev and Bryan took over the farm. Mom was hardworking and very intelligent. She decided to earn her office education certificate at the Weyburn Vocational School and soon began to work. It wasn't long, though, until Mom's beauty was spotted by Dean McGugan who began courting her. They were soon married and had a great life together. Mom and Dean travelled extensively. Mom's favorite destination was Hawaii. They also spent many winters in Victoria admiring the tulips. Mom held an active position with the Weyburn Hospital Auxiliary and Meals-on-Wheels. Both of these organizations were a definite tribute to her giving nature. Mom was predeceased by her parents, Jim and Jean Waddell, her sisters, Hazel Watts, Helene Watts and Shirley Russell, her husbands, Roy Gibbs and Dean McGugan, infant daughters, Connie and Gwendolyn, and her daughter-in-law, Linda Gibbs. Mom is survived by daughter, Beverly Kulach (Blair) and son, Bryan Gibbs (Karen). Her grandchildren, Christina Balkwill (Kevin Sirett), Stephanie Balkwill, Logan Balkwill (Janna Willis), Cassandra Neitz, Brent (Tracy) Gibbs and Doug (Jacquie) Gibbs, will always remember her abundance of love for them. She was very special and close to her great grandchildren, Micheala, Morgan, Ethan, Geneva, Devin, Kurtis, Bridget, and Katherine. Mom, you are our "sweetest flower that grows and none can compare with our wild Irish Rose." A Memorial Service was held Monday, January, 21 at 2:00 PM from Fletcher Funeral Chapel, Weyburn with Reverend John Ferrier officiating. Interment will follow at a later date. Donations in memory of Phyllis may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation. Condolences may be left at: www.fletcherfuneralchapel.com. Arrangements entrusted to Fletcher Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, 306-842-5432.
