Pauline Woodard (nee Herman), late of Weyburn passed away Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at the age of 98 years. Pauline was predeceased by her parents, Andrew and Pearl Herman; husband, Archibald Woodard; brothers, Nick, John, Steve, Peter and Bill; sisters, Mary Dudar, Lena Lulashnyk, Katherine Basaraba, Ann Herman and Jessie Gancher; as well as Archie's sons, Bill (Rita) and Tom. She will be lovingly remembered by Archie's grandchildren, Bill, John and Mary Lee (Wayne); many nieces and nephews; as well as numerous friends from her church and the nursing home. Pauline was born in Fishing River, MB on January 26, 1914. She left the farm in 1938 and came to Weyburn to help her sister, Mary Dudar and her four children, as Mary had her left arm amputated due to a sarcoma. Mary and Pauline were more than sisters; they were best friends and lived just down the alley from each other. Pauline had several housekeeping jobs and one happened to be at the home of a widower, Archie Woodard. Pauline and Archie were married in 1943. Archie had two sons, Bill and Tom. Tom was killed in action in 1944 at the age of 21, devastating news for Archie, but Pauline was there for him to share the great loss. Together they had many short trips to the northern states and Regina - which was very exciting in the 1940's. Polly enjoyed gardening, baking for church sales, and cooking (selling perogies at 25 cents a dozen). Archie's favorite meal was roast beef, Yorkshire pudding, and lemon pie-no one could match Aunt Polly's. Not many could match her cooking and baking. The family has fond memories of her amazing bread, tarts, chicken soup and other favorites. She also enjoyed crocheting, and made many doilies and embroidered luncheon clothes. Archie passed away in 1962. At that time she worked at Mallay's Restaurant, which was in the basement of the Holder Block. She also cared for Group Home clients for several years. Due to failing health she had to give up taking care of the ladies she loved and cared for. In 2001 unable to live on her own, Weyburn Special Care Home became her new home. She enjoyed all activities and staff who were very kind and caring. With failing health this past year she lost interest in activities. However, despite her failing health and severe arthritis, Polly always wore a dress with beads, with her hair and make up done. Polly was a strong, helpful and caring person who will be deeply missed by all who knew her. A prayer service was held Sunday, September 16 at 7:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, September 17 at 10:30 am, both services were held from St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Weyburn, with Father Gerry Bauche celebrating. Pallbearers were Basil Woodard, Laurence Woodard, Darren Woodard, Louis Woodard, Michael Woodard, and Richard Woodard. Interment took place at Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn. Donations in memory of Pauline may be made to the Weyburn Special Care Home or a church of donor's choice. Condolences may be left at: www.fletcherfuneralchapel.com.
