The family would like to express a sincere thank you to Jodi for her many years of loving care and support. It was greatly appreciated and we consider you family. Vinold Carlson passed away peacefully on the morning of Sunday June 9, 2013 in the Estevan Hospital. He was 85 years old. Vinold was born on the family farm to John and Charlotte Carlson on October 30, 1927. He was raised on the farm outside of Midale with his brothers Gordon and Ralph. When his brothers were called for duty in WWII, Vinold stayed on the family farm to help his father. As he grew up he loved to play ball and curl. He took his schooling at the Anderson School until grade 8, did correspondence until grade 10 and then went to Midale School for his grade 11 certificate. His first job was as a bartender at the hotel in Midale. In 1979 he went on to invest and work as a bartender for many years with Bert Penman at the Soo Hotel in Weyburn. He met his wife and moved to Halbrite. There they raised many purebred dogs. He had a passion for papillons and rough and smooth coated collies. His collie Melodie and papillons Fergie and Lisa were a couple of his favorites. Vinold and his wife never had children, but there were five girls from the community who knew them because of the dogs, and they traveled with the girls to different dog shows over the years. These girls were like his children and he cherished their company. Vinold loved to have people over for meals and play cards. He had a good poker face when it came to rummy. Vinold and his wife moved to an acreage outside of Macoun where he continued to raise his beloved dogs, some goats, turkeys and chickens. He separated from his wife in the mid 1990's and moved back to Midale. Vinold was a proud supporter of his community. If he was able, he was glad to help. He became a Lions member in 1998 and held the positions of president and lion tamer. He served as a proud Lion for a total 15 years. Vinold also helped the Midale Mustangs hockey team sell game tickets for many years. He was also an active member of the Midale 39ers and a proud supporter of the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Vinold touched the lives of everyone he met and will be truly missed. A Celebration of his life will be held at the Fletcher Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, on July 6, at 10:00 am with Reverend John Ferrier officiating. Interment will follow at the Midale Cemetery and lunch will be held at the Midale Curling Rink. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the Midale First Responders. Condolences may be left at: www.fletcherfuneralchapel.com. Arrangements entrusted to Fletcher Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, 306-842-5432
