Myrtle Clara Evans, late of Edmonton, AB, formerly of Weyburn, passed away October 15, 2012 at the age of 94 years. Myrtle was born August 18, 1918 at Hume, to Charles and Elsie Rodine. She grew up on the family farm with four sisters, Gladys, Flossie, Alice and Lois. Myrtle attended school in the Hume School District until she completed her grade ten. In 1978 she successfully completed and received her GED Diploma. As a young woman she was employed in Whitby, ON in the 1940's at a munitions plant. From 1944 until 1946 Myrtle served as a Salvation Army officer. On July 16, 1955, Myrtle married Jim Evans at the Free Methodist Church in Weyburn. Jim and Myrtle lived in Weyburn all of their married lives and raised their children, Kathryn and Douglas. Myrtle was active in the community visiting and volunteering at Souris Valley, the Salvation Army and other care centres in the area. It was at Souris Valley that she began a career as payroll clerk and eventually retired in 1983. Myrtle was also active with The Salvation Army Weyburn Corps. She served for 25 years in Women's Ministries, assisted as treasurer for many years and was a lifetime League of Mercy member. In her spare time Myrtle enjoyed knitting, crocheting, quilting, stitchery, sewing and reading. As her children lived in many different places, eastern Canada, Ontario, Alberta and Germany, Myrtle enjoyed the special family gatherings they had. In 2007 as her health declined, Myrtle moved to Edmonton, AB and in 2009 she became a resident of the Miller Crossing Care Centre until her passing. Mom was well known as "the lady who always smiled." She was a breast cancer survivor since 1983 and was always ready to extend a helping hand to anyone in need. Myrtle was predeceased by her parents, Elsie and Charles Rodine; husband, Jim Evans and sisters, Gladys Fenwick, Alice Vestby and Flo Pederson. She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Kathryn (Lyndon) Brown of Windsor, ON and Douglas (Diane) Evans of Edmonton, AB; grandchildren Rebecca (Robert) Buzon and their children: Emily, Gabriella and Adrianna of Edmonton, AB; Janice (Jonathon) Howey of Houston, TX; James Brown of Edmonton, AB; David Brown of Windsor, ON; sister: Lois Fish of Weyburn, as well as very dear nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, October 23, at 2:00 p.m. from the Salvation Army Corps, Weyburn, with Majors Ronald and Linda Mailman officiating. Interment took place Tuesday, October 23, at 10:00 a.m. at Green Acres Memorial Gardens, Weyburn. Pallbearers were, Doug Evans, Lyndon Brown, David Brown and Brian Walters.
