Mildred Helen Rubin passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at the age of 95 years. Mildred was predeceased by her parents, Mathias and Eva Honig; son, Ronald Leonard; infant granddaughter, Gina Rubin and Tobi Haddow; grandson, Brett Haddow and brother, John (Evelyn) Honig. Mildred was born on October 5, 1918 in Weyburn, and spent the first five years of her life living in Weyburn. Her family then moved to Salem, Oregon for a short time but returned to Weyburn where she remained for the rest of her life. Mildred attended the Prospect School from Grade 1 to 10 and later Business School. While attending Business School she also worked as a housekeeper. After completing her training at Business School she began working at the Co-op Creamery as the secretary. On September 21, 1941 Mildred married the love of her life, Rene Louis Rubin. Following marriage Mildred stayed at home and raised her family. Mildred and Rene spent their lives together in Weyburn as well as some time on the farm just out of town. Once her children were older she would return to the work force took a position at Schultz's Insurance and later at Weyburn Hardware. Mildred loved her flower gardens, but also grew huge vegetable and berry gardens. When she had "spare" moments she enjoyed crocheting. She was a 4-H leader and very involved in her church community. Mildred was part of a Bible study group, reader at Sunday Mass, member of the Catholic Women's League as well as St. Mary's Altar Society. She was active in her community as well and volunteered many hours with the Hospital Auxiliary. Mildred loved family weddings, the birth of a new family member, birthday celebrations and any event that would bring family and close friends together. A highlight was the celebration of her and Rene's 65th wedding anniversary. Mildred was the sweetest, most caring, faithful person and she brought her children closer to God every day of her life. She will be sadly missed by family and many friends. Mildred is survived by her daughter, Lois (Dennis) McNaught of Winfield, BC and their children, Tracy (Larry) Oakley, Carmen (Pat) Butala and Dean McNaught; son, Robert Rubin of Coquitlam, BC; daughter, Rosemary (Gerald) Ponto of Weyburn, and their daughters, Nicole Ponto (Josh Williams) and Dina Ponto; son, Jim (Laurie) Rubin of Weyburn, and their children, Shaylena (Clint) Alberts, Nathan Rubin, Erin (Stan) Rector, Amy-Rose (Brett) Molde, Michael Rubin, Jessi-Lynn Rubin and Andrew Rubin; daughter, Michelle (Wes) Chessall of Weyburn, and her children, Marlow (Paige) Killian, Sean (Vikki) Killian and Amanda (Brett) Werdal; granddaughter, Gina Haddow Rubin; 18 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Prayers were said on Sunday, December 22 at 7:00 PM and a Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by Father Gerry Bauche on Monday, December 23 at 10:30 AM. Both services took place at St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church, Weyburn. Interment followed at Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn.
