Michael Hilkewich, late of Weyburn, passed away January 19, 2014, at the age of 83 years. Michael was predeceased by his wife Alga; parents Harry and Alberta Hilkewich; sister Albina (William) Shwyduik; brothers: Tom Hilkewich, Nick Hilkewich, Orest Hilkewich; brothers-in-law: Mike Titus, Joe Petras; sister-in-law Marjorie Hilkewich. Michael is survived by his three sons: Kim (Kelly) Hilkewich, Calgary, AB, Kelly (Laurie) Hilkewich, Weyburn, Jack (Charlene) Hilkewich, Regina; seven grandchildren: Ashley (Ali), Tyler, Mallory, Carter, Alexandra, Quinn and Lauren; sisters: Olga Titus, Vancouver, BC, Emily Petras, Saskatoon; brothers: Richard (Worcine) Hilkewich, Saskatoon; Walter Hilkewich, Saskatoon, Ted (Olga) Hilkewich, Oshawa, ON; sisters-in-law: Sally Hilkewich, Alvena, Doris Hilkewich, Alvena, Irene Hilkewich, Saskatoon; along with many nieces and nephews. Mike, one of ten children, was born to Harry and Alberta on May 22, 1930 at home on the farm near Alvena, on the banks of the Saskatchewan River. After growing up on the farm, Mike moved to Saskatoon and worked in various trades. Mike met Alga Wasyluk in Saskatoon and they were married on August 1, 1954 and moved to Midale in 1956. Mike's move to Midale came at the time of the boom in the oilfield. Mike worked with Shell Oil and upholstered on the side. In 1966 the family moved to Wadena to start up an Upholstery Shop. In 1968, the family moved back to Midale and took over operation of the restaurant at the Imperial Esso Service Station. Later that year Mike started his own construction company in the oilfield. This business lasted over 20 years. Mike and Alga then spent winters down south and Mike would consult in the oilfield during the summer months. Mike lived at Jacquin Place until he fell ill with pneumonia and then spent the last year and a half at the Weyburn Special Care Home. Viewing for Michael was held on Wednesday, January 22 from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. at RD Family Funeral Chapel, Weyburn. A funeral service for Michael was held on Thursday, January 23 at 1:00 p.m. from Midale Baptist Church, Midale with Michael White, officiating. Interment followed at Westphalia Cemetery, Midale. Honorary Pallbearers were all of his friends. Pallbearers were Blake Koeckeritz, Kevin Brady, Bill Webster, Dave Piper, Tyler Hilkewich and Carter Hilkewich.
