Marguerite Severson passed away peacefully at the Seniors Village in Kamloops, B.C. on Sunday, September 14, 2014 at the age of 92 years. Marguerite McAlpine was born August 6, 1922 on a farm near Oungre. In school and as a young woman, she enjoyed and excelled at playing softball. She married Harry Severson in 1941 and they continued to farm until they moved in to Oungre in 1964. They operated a trucking business, gas station and coffee shop there together. Throughout their life they enjoyed going to dances, playing cards and their grandchildren. Harry passed away in 1978 and Marguerite moved to Weyburn. Marguerite loved to play cards, was an excellent bridge player, attended many tournaments with her friends and enjoyed it immensely. She was a member of the Catholic Church Women's League, the Homemaker's and various other organizations throughout her life. She also loved to knit, read books and watch baseball and curling. She worked at the Souris Valley Extended Care Hospital in the sewing room and as a dietary aide in a nursing home in Weyburn. Marguerite will be lovingly remembered by her three children, Marita (Del) of Kamloops, Eugene (Gayle) of Calgary, Gwen (Brian) of Kamloops, seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, three sister-in-laws, Meda, Florence and Betty (Lavern), and many nieces and nephews. A graveside memorial service was held on October 1 by Father Martin at the Hillside Cemetery in Kamloops, B.C.
There's an open gate
At the end of the road
Through which each must go alone,
And there in a light we cannot see
Our Father claims His own;
Beyond the gate your loved one
Finds happiness and rest
And there is comfort
In the thought
That a loving God knows best.
