Marjorie Lorraine Pokletar, late of Weyburn, passed away August 21, 2016, at the age of 78 years. She was predeceased by her parents: John and Gertrude Wilson; nephew Matthew Griffin, and her aunts and uncles. Marjorie is survived by her daughter Susan (Allan) Culbertson, Weyburn, and their daughter Erika Culbertson (Dwayne Hovanak) and their daughter [Brooklyn], Ceylon; her son Don Pokletar, Weyburn, and his children: Johnathan Pokletar (Shenay Maurer and their expected son), Matthew Pokletar, Emily Pokletar, Avah Pokletar, and their mother Geraldine; Ernie Pokletar (father of Susan and Don); brother Ken (Darlene) Wilson, Winnipeg, MB; sister Donna Wilson (Mike Noblett), Calgary, AB; as well as a niece, nephews and cousins. Mum was born Marjorie Lorraine Wilson on April 4, 1938. She was the first child of John and Gertrude Wilson, born at her grandparent鈥檚 farm in the Spring Creek District, near Moosomin. Marj lived at Knock Hill farm until she was five years old when her parents bought some land and started the Wilson family farm. She loved farm life and all that country living had to offer. Marj and her brother Ken helped their dad with the farming and livestock, back in the days when horses were used instead of tractors. One of her jobs was to milk the cow although Ken said it was never her favorite chore! What she liked to do was help her Mum sew and cook and became very good at cooking, learning from one of the best. She also liked to iron, but wasn鈥檛 particularly fond of the way her Mum taught her and wanted it done. So Marj would either walk or ride her horse over to her grandma Nellie Fawcett鈥檚 where she would let her iron all day, just the way she wanted 鈥 and paid her to do it! Marj鈥檚 biggest passion on the farm was the horses, especially Dot. She would round up cattle with her, ride her back and forth to school, and in the winter she would hook up and ride by sleigh. But most of all, she loved going on leisurely strolls with Dot. Marj began school at the one-room school in Spring Creek and finished at Moosomin High School. In those years, she was very athletic and was involved in track and field. She also played ladies fastball while she lived in Moosomin, as well as when she moved to Weyburn. Bowling was another favorite, playing in the Weyburn mixed league. She bowled many games over 300 and one game was perfect 鈥 until the 10th frame. Once she finished school, Marj was moving to Regina around the same time she found out that her and Ken had a sibling on the way. Donna was born and Marj loved to spoil her, often bringing her fancy new clothes from Regina, where she worked as a nurse鈥檚 aide at the Regina General Hospital. This was where she met Ernie Pokletar and they were married in 1960. In September 1961, their daughter Susan was born, followed by Don in July 1964. In 1965, they moved to Weyburn where Marj was a homemaker for the next 12 years. When the kids got older, she went to work at Souris Valley Regional Care Centre in Weyburn for the next 22 years. She had a very strong work ethic and took care of all of the patients as if they were her own family and always had fun with her co-workers. Marj grew up attending St. Peter鈥檚 Anglican Church in Spring Creek and later was a member of All Saints Anglican Church, ACW, as well as a Sunday school teacher in Weyburn. She was an avid fan of the Weyburn Red Wings hockey team, a member of the team鈥檚 Booster Club and a member and volunteer at both the Legion and Elks Clubs.聽Marj loved and was very proud of her kids, grandkids, siblings, relatives and friends. Although she wasn鈥檛 well for the past few years, she was always interested in updates on what the family was up to. She still liked to tell stories from the old days on the farm, and she always looked forward to her phone chats with her brother and sister. Marj became a great grandmother this year, and loved when Brooklyn would come to visit. Unfortunately, she left us before meeting her second great grandchild, due this November.聽 She passed away peacefully and in no pain, with her children and some of her grandchildren by her side. We will miss you Mum, but we now know that you are breathing easy and don鈥檛 have to fight anymore. At the end of a visit or at the end of a phone call she always used to say 鈥渂ye for now鈥. So until we meet again Mum, bye for now. Thank you to everyone for your prayers, support , gestures of sympathy and those who travelled to attend the memorial service. The visits, phone calls, food, flowers, donations and cards are all greatly appreciated. Susan Culbertson, Don Pokletar and families. A Service of Remembrance for Marjorie was held Friday, August 26, at 11:00 am from St. Peter鈥檚 Anglican Church, Spring Creek District, Moosomin, with Rev. Dr. Trish McCarthy officiating.
