Margaret Obst, late of Weyburn, passed away July 1, 2014, at the age of 89 years. Margaret was predeceased by her parents: George and Anna Lekivetz; her husband Ernest Obst; infant son Glen Howard Obst; brother Don and sister Mary. Margaret is survived by her six children: Linda Obst, Edmonton, AB, Ken (Patti) Obst, Westbank, BC, Ron Obst, Victoria, BC, Terry (Debbie) Obst, Yorkton, Dale (Vivian) Obst, Swift Current, and Wayne (Shari) Obst, Weyburn; grandchildren: Mark (Corinne), Aaron, Sean (Tania), Cody, Shay, Jason, Sheldon, Clayton and Michelle; six great-grandchildren: Kate, Liv, Seth, Naomi, Megan and Kamryn; as well as several nieces and nephews. Margaret was born in Milestone on November 1, 1924 and raised at Riceton. She went to Normal School to get her teaching degree in Regina, afterwards Margaret taught school in Stoneaway, Kronau and Schneider. Margaret married Ernest Carl Obst on April 20, 1948. Together they had seven children: Linda, Ken, Ron, Terry, Dale, Butch and Glen. Margaret and Ernest farmed at Talmage until they moved to Weyburn in the fall of 1984. Along with farming, Margaret was also a janitor at the Talmage School and also the secretary of the Agriculture Society. Margaret enjoyed many hobbies and interests. They included square dancing, playing cards and scrabble, knitting, crocheting, curling, gardening, she was a part of the homemakers and she was also an avid reader. Margaret also loved her dogs very much. She was a strong influence in kids sports, 4-H club and the fair. In April 2009 Margaret went into the Crocus Plains Villa nursing home until her passing on July 1, 2014. Margaret's family would like to give a special thank you the Arlene, Wayne and the staff of Crocus Plains Villa. Prayers for Margaret were held on Sunday, July 6 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church, Weyburn. A Mass of Christian Burial for Margaret was held on Monday, July 7 at 10:30 a.m. from St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church, Weyburn with Father Gerry Bauche, celebrant. Interment followed at Hillcrest Cemetery Weyburn. Pallbearers were Mark Obst, Sean Obst, Aaron Obst, Cody Obst, Shay Obst, Clayton Obst, Jason Obst, Sheldon Obst and Michelle Obst. All in attendance were considered honorary pallbearers. For family and friends so wishing, donations in memory of Margaret may be made to the Weyburn Humane Society, Box 1062, Weyburn, SK, S4H 2L3. Arrangements were entrusted to RD Family Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, Weyburn (306-848-0333 ~ 1-888-848-0333).
