Mamie was born December 11, 1926, the fifth child of Cornelius and Jennie Verboom. She and her 16 siblings lived on the family farm near Glasnevin. She attended Mount Joy School, working in the area until marrying George Greenawalt. Mamie moved to the Greenawalt farm south of Ogema where they lived until 1967. On the farm she always had a huge garden including rows and rows of potatoes. Due to George's health they moved to Ogema in 1967 where George did carpenter work. In 1976 George passed away and Mamie worked as the cleaner at the Credit Union until retiring. She took pride in her family and enjoyed preparing big meals for when they arrived. She always took great care to ensure everyone received birthday and Christmas presents. Many of the presents were handmade for the nine grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. In town she still had a large garden of vegetables and just loved her flowers and working outside. Over the years Mamie has made lots of quilts, with each of her grandchildren and great grandchildren receiving a special quilt. Most mornings she would call her sister June and they would go for coffee downtown with her favorite coffee group. In later years, in the evening she loved her favorite television shows, embroidering, doing crafts, or doing puzzles as she watched television. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her children, son, Ed (Lynn) Greenawalt and his children, Dallas (Craig) and children, Brandon and Dawson, Cory (Lindsy) and children, Marcus, Chase and Jessica and the mother of Ed's children, Pam Greenawalt; daughter, Gloria (Al) Martin and their family, Jeff (Melanie) and children, Ian, Isabel and Adam, Leanne (Marc) Joly and son Mathieu, Craig (Courtney) and children, Samantha and Hailey, Scott (Jaime); daughter, Linda (Lloyd) Gieg and their daughter, Danita (Chris) Low and children, Brody and Kaylee; daughter, Debbie (Robert) Hazen and their family, Cody (Samantha) and Zack; brothers, Bob (Blanche) Verboom; sisters, Margaret Moser, Doris Whyte, Jean (Elton) Hill and June Scott as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
