Lil Hearn

Lil, aged 86, passed away suddenly but peacefully at the Weyburn General Hospital with her loving family at her side, just days before her 56 wedding anniversary. For family that was trying to return to be with her, she was in their hearts. She is survived by her husband John (Red), her four children, John (Valerie) of Edmonton, AB, Richard (Teresa) of Calgary, AB, Cathy (Derek) of Whitecourt, AB and Teresa LaFoy (Jerry) of Weyburn. Her precious grandchildren; Conor, Madison, Jack, Emma and Riley. Sister Chris McAuley (Douglas) of Winnipeg and her aunt Sophie Dudar of Portage La Prairie. Sister-in-law Peggy Dudar of Houston Texas, and sisters-in-law Kay Malloy of Regina and Pat Stewart of Victoria, BC. She was predeceased by her parents Mary and Harry Dudar, brothers William and John, and sister Nettie. Lil was born and raised in Weyburn. She graduated from Grey Nuns Hospital as an RN in 1952 and began her nursing career at the Weyburn Union Hospital. On April 19, 1958 she married John and continued her nursing career until taking a break to raise her four children. She proudly returned to her nursing career in 1983 at the Souris Valley Regional Care Center. Lil was always a nurse, whether working, raising her family, or looking after friends and neighbors and extended family members. She was an enthusiastic volunteer in her community, providing nurturing and compassionate care to everyone she served. She volunteered at Souris Valley/Tatagwa and the Weyburn Special Care home. She served Meals on Wheels and delivered care packages to Veterans. Lil was an active member of the Weyburn Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Catholic Women's League. Lil enjoyed knitting, gardening and traveling to visit her children and grandchildren. She loved playing cards with her life-long friends and often played late into the evening. Even with the loss of her sight over the last years and her battle with cancer, she handled it with grace and a positive attitude. Lil's grandchildren were a great source of pride and joy for her. She loved cooking them perogies and teaching them to knit and always had fresh bread ready for them to eat. Having the grandkids enjoy her yard and climb on the trees always gave her great joy. Her family would like to send a special thank you to the Regina General Hospital and Regina Pasqua Palliative Care Unit as well as Dr. Stewart and the staff at the Weyburn General Hospital. Lil's strength, courage, hope, humour and wisdom will be remembered by all. So long for now, until we meet again A Mass of Christian Burial for Lil was held on Thursday, April 24 at 10:00 a.m. from St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church, Weyburn with Father Gerry Bauche, celebrant. Interment followed at Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn.
