Kenneth Charles Powell

Kenneth Charles Powell died suddenly in his Weyburn home, peacefully ending his struggle with COPD and lung cancer. Predeceased by his parents, Evan and Io Powell, Ken is survived by his loving siblings, Elizabeth Barker (Cam) of Calgary, AB and Craig Powell (Ruth) of Regina, SK, two nieces and one nephew. Ken was born in Midale, SK near where the family farmed at Griffin. He received his public school education in Froude, Talmage and Weyburn. In 1972, he obtained a diploma in Agriculture from the University of Saskatchewan. He worked at various jobs until his increasingly difficult battle with schizophrenia made work impossible. Ken’s favourite activities were reading, thinking and expounding his ideas about current politics, ongoing scientific discoveries and the future of human society. Spurred by his love of mathematics, he spent time during his later life collecting and recording statistics on topics that interested him. He was known for his sense of humour. A graveside service was held at Griffin Cemetery on Friday, August 19, and Ken was interred with his parents and extended Powell family. A Celebration of his life and funeral lunch followed at Wheatland Senior Centre, Weyburn. Memorial donations in memory of Ken may be made to the Weyburn Group Homes Society, the staff of which provided Ken with the very best of friendship, support and care over many years. Condolences may be left at: www.fletcherfuneralchapel.com. Arrangements entrusted to Fletcher Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, 306-842-5432.
