Ken Albert Latham

Ken Albert Latham passed away suddenly Thursday, January 2, 2014 with loved ones by his side. Ken was predeceased by his father, Albert Latham and only brother, Don. Ken will be lovingly remembered by his mother, Gladys of Weyburn; soul mate, Cheryl Graefer and family of Weyburn; son/best friend/hunting, fishing and camping partner, Trent and his wife, Deana and their daughter, Madison or better known as Bubba by her grandpa; daughter, Shyla (Kevin Simpson) and her children, D.J. and Kayla all of Weyburn, and his three children, Terri-Lynn Kogler (John), Tim, Don and their families. Ken was born in Weyburn, on February 17, 1945 and received most of his schooling here. He started out as a plumber, worked many years on road construction and even tried his hand at the drilling rigs for a short time. Ken found his passion with heavy equipment and worked for the city of Weyburn. He worked his way through many positions ending up as the City Works Superintendent and retired with 30 years of service. Ken worked and played hard his whole life. He took pride in his work and always strived so that the people of Weyburn had clean streets and running water, often missing family holidays so this could be achieved. Ken spent many hours giving his time and his grader to fix the roads at Nickel Lake and building Motto Cross tracks. His greatest joy, however, was coaching boxing and he travelled countless miles with the Soo-Line Boxing Club, making many good friends along the way. In his spare time Ken truly loved to hunt, fish and camp with many friends and family. Nickel Lake and Mainprize Park will never be the same for a lot of people without Kenny's presence. In his later years Ken realized his passion was travelling abroad and made many trips to Mexico. Going deep-sea fishing with his son, Trent was definitely the highlight of his many trips. In the last few years Ken would make these trips with Cheryl where they got to know each other and fall deeper in love. Ken touched many people's lives with his witty sense of humour, quick comebacks and willingness to help. All that knew him couldn't help but love him. He truly will be missed by many. "Until we meet again Dad, we LOVE YOU!!!" Gone but not forgotten, Ken has left a big hole in a lot of hearts that will never be filled. A Celebration of Ken's life was held from the Knox Presbyterian Church, Tuesday, January 7 at 2:00 PM with Reverend John Ferrier officiating. The active Pallbearers were his lifelong friends, Johnny Johnston, Bill Irvine Sr., Ron Arndt, Tim Hood, Ernie Pokletar and nephew, Mike Latham. Honourary Pallbearers were all those in attendance. A private family interment took place at Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn. Donations in memory of Ken may be made to STARS Air Ambulance or Weyburn Humane Society. Condolences may be left at: www.fletcherfuneralchapel.com. Arrangements entrusted to Fletcher Funeral Chapels, Weyburn, 306-842-5432.
