Katherine Ortman, born June 8, 1932 passed away at Regina on the 1st day of January, 2013 at the age of 80 years. Kaye was born to Andrew and Anna Roesslein on the 8th day of June, 1932 in Ceylon. She was the youngest child in a family of seven children. At the age of two she moved with her family to Khedive and again in 1936 they moved to Pangman. Kaye spent her youth on the farm in Pangman and many happy days were spent riding her horse. At the age of 13 the family moved again, this time they took up residence in Weyburn. On October 20, 1952, Kaye married Herman Ortman. The first ten years of their married life were spent farming at Griffin, but living mostly in Weyburn. In 1956 they built their house in Weyburn and have remained since then. Kaye was first and foremost a homemaker and a mother, but when her children were older she worked as a waitress. Kaye was deeply connected to the Lutheran Church and was an active member of the Ladies' Circle and later served as the President of the Lutheran Church Women. She was also very involved with Sunday School and spent 25 years as a teacher as well as the superintendent. Kaye was an excellent cook, loved to garden and in her free time enjoyed knitting and quilting. She was a very social and outgoing person. She loved people, her family and especially her grandchildren. Kaye will be deeply missed. Katherine was predeceased by her parents, Andrew and Anna Roesslein; son, Wayne and brothers, Joe (Lizzy), John (Mary), Nicholas, Andrew and Kon. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 60 years, Herman of Weyburn; children, Connie McKenzie (Earl Cooper) of Saskatoon, and her children: Elin Thomas, Jeffrey (Shannon) and family, Julie and Nola, Karen (Alan) Macovichuk of Winnipeg, MB and their children, Leyna and Britany, and Scott (Shirley Premachuk) of Winnipeg, MB; sister, Helen (Willy) Gerhardt of Winfield, BC, sisters-in-law, Violet Roesslein of Weyburn, and Pat Roesslein of Regina, as well as many nieces and nephews. Visitation was held on Friday, January 4 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Fletcher Funeral Chapel, Weyburn and a funeral service was held from Zion Lutheran Church on Saturday, January 5 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Martin Olson officiating. Pallbearers were Wilfred Gerhardt, Scott Thomas, John Roesslein, Rob Mann, Larry Szczecinski and Tom Roesslein. Interment followed at Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn.
