Karen McLellan (VanDeSype), born in Radville on April 30, 1957, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2012 with her family and friends by her side. At the age of 48, Karen was diagnosed with an aggressive disease of Multiple Myeloma. She was given little hope or time by the medical community but that was before they got to know her. Karen rewrote her medical diagnosis through her sheer determination to participate fully in her rich and active family life. Her strength, courage, and vitality inspired and enriched the lives of all those who were fortunate enough to meet her. She leaves to mourn her, husband Dan McLellan, daughter Jennifer Schad, son Jamie Schad, grandson Layne Schad, mother Lea VanDeSype (Donnie McLeod), father Earl VanDeSype (Myrna Stadnyk), siblings Glenn (Shantelle), Randy, Gaylene Kaip (Doug), Brent (Michelle), Caroline Chartrand (Russ) and their families, along with many cherished aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. A Celebration of Karen's Life was held in her home in Nanaimo, BC on December 21. A Celebration of Karen's Life will be held at the family farm this spring.
