Julia Harris late of Regina, and formerly of Weyburn, passed away on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at the age of 71 years. Julie is survived by her children, Yvonne Harris, and Tim Harris (Susan); her grandsons, Austin and Chad Harris; her sister Lilly (Norman) Wozny; along with numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her special friends, Norm Simms, Larry and Broyna Ortman and Hilda. Julie was predeceased by her parents, Alex and Mary Onofreychuk, her loving husband Herb Harris, her siblings Helen Onofreychuk, Peter (Lorraine) Onofreychuk, George (Elsie) Onofreychuk. Julia (Julie) Harris was born in Wroxton, SK. She was raised on the family farm east of Wroxton and moved to Weyburn to begin her education as a psychiatric nurse at the Weyburn Psychiatric Center at the age of 19. She was a nursing student when she met the love of her life, Herb Harris. They married November 5, 1960 and raised their children Yvonne and Tim in Weyburn. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed being in the sun. She was an athlete, and the only girl on an all boy team in Wroxton; she was the first baseman on an adult team in Weyburn. This is probably the basis for her absolute love of the Toronto Blue Jays, Minnesota Vikings, Calgary Flames, and the Calgary Stampeders. She loved the Brier, Stanley Cup, Grey Cup, and Regina's Mosaic. She enjoyed being at Nickel Lake, camping, boating, fishing, and tanning. She enjoyed spending time with her many friends, especially the Twarowskis, and the Ortmans. She was a good friend, community member, and co-worker, and was often surrounded by her many friends from around town, the Elks, and the hospital. Julie found great peace in her membership in the All Saints Anglican Church of Weyburn. Her musical tastes ranged from classical music to Bob Dylan. Julie was a very loving and caring wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed her retirement by spending time with seniors in Weyburn, she liked their companionship and reading to them. In her lifetime, she enjoyed curling, bowling, reading, fishing, cooking, baking, crocheting, and all things Christmas. She loved travelling, and enjoyed her many trips with Larry and Broyna Ortman; she liked joining them on their trips to Yuma, often talking Larry's ears off the whole way. She loved her recent trip to Jamaica with Yvonne and Norm. She loved spending time with Norm, playing crib and baking her famous applesauce cake. She adored her grandsons Austin and Chad; she was the grandma that sat on the floor, played every game, followed them everywhere, and listened to their endless tales. Julie was very proud of her Ukranian heritage, and her collections of stacking wooden "babas", and nutcrackers. May she always be remembered by all of those who were fortunate enough to be touched by her love and her light. A Memorial Service was held Tuesday, October 9, at 3:00 p.m. from Fletcher Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, with Reverend Catherine Harper officiating. Interment took place at Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn.
