Jean Elizabeth Petersen, late of Weyburn, passed away Tuesday August 14, 2012, at the age of 93 years. Jean was predeceased by her former husband, Cliff Petersen; her parents, Robert and Margaret McNeil; her brothers: John McNeil, Gerald and Gladys McNeil, Donald McNeil; sisters: Laura and Len Speight, Edna and Lloyd Lohse, Isabelle and Kermit Benneweis; sisters and brothers-in-law: Elmer and Sylvia Petersen, Lenard and Violet Petersen, Evelyn and Doug Von Hagen, Norman and Lorraine Petersen, Kenneth Petersen and Norma Vaksdal; nephew, Keith Petersen and friend Keith Couvert. Jean is survived by her children: Dale (Pat) Petersen, Weyburn, Lynn (Ron) Fink, Edmonton, AB; five grandchildren: Brenda (Calvin) Sonntag, Brad Fink (Kristen Baker), Greg (Gwen) Marshall, Amber Petersen, Davin Petersen (Steph Pateman); great grandchildren: Anna and Ryan Sonntag, Gwenna and Gabriel Fink, Gage and Reese Marshall; Jean's sisters-in-law: Pat McNeil, Sophie Petersen; brothers-in-law: Larry (June) Petersen, Jim Vaksdal (Evelyn) as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Jean was born on the McNeil farm south of Hoffer, and received her education at the Murray Smith and Hoffer schools. She spent time in Brownberg, Quebec during the war working in an ammunition factory. Jean married Clifford Petersen and after the war they started farming south of Lake Alma. Jean spent her early years devoted to the farm life and raising her family. Later she retired to Weyburn where she enjoyed reading, travelling, spending time with her family and the companionship of Keith Couvert. A Service of Remembrance for Jean was held on Saturday, August 18 at 10:00 a.m. from Grace United Church, Weyburn, with Rev. M. Barnabas, officiating. Lunch followed at Upper Grace Hall. A private family interment was held at Saron Cemetery, Lake Alma. All in attendance were considered honorary pallbearers.
