Irma McGugan passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at the age of 86. Irma's parents, Emmanuel and Emma Gueldner, immigrated from Russia in 1924. Irma was born in Weyburn on January 12, 1928; one of six children. The family farmed east of Weyburn. She is predeceased by her husband, Norman McGugan; two brothers, Henry (Kay) and Herbert Gueldner and brother-in-law, Harold Flaaten. She will be lovingly remembered by her five daughters, Debbie (Dr. Michael) Ashley of Seattle, WA and their sons, Daniel (Michayla) and David (Renee) and their daughter Samantha; Laureen (Terry) Cuddington of Regina, and their children, Breanne (Jameson), Derek (Saori) and Midori; Valorie (Gordon) Johnson of Smithers, BC and their children, Evan (Shauna), Micaele and Garret; Karen (Frank) Paul of Kelowna, BC and their children, Alyssa (Lee), Collin and Graeme; Janice (Laurie) Giroux of Weyburn, and their children, Renae and Eric; brothers and sisters, Robert (Betty) Gueldner, Laura Flaaten, Albert (Dorothy) Gueldner, sister-in-law Ella Gueldner as well as numerous nieces, relatives and friends. After attending high school in Weyburn, Irma trained in bookkeeping and accounting and used her skills wisely. October 1, 1950, Irma married Norman McGugan of Colgate. Norman and Irma actively farmed in the Weyburn and Colgate areas. Irma was a successful businesswoman managing and owning "Weyburn Appliance and Service". Norman and Irma operated the business for 18 years. Irma was a member of Zion Lutheran Church all of her life. She served on the church council, sang in the choir and participated in many of the women's circle events. Irma will be remembered for her dedication and strong faith in God. Irma belonged to the Weyburn Horticultural Society. She enjoyed many hours working in her vegetable and flower gardens. Her green thumb produced abundant harvests and beautiful flowers, especially roses. She was known to work very hard on the farm alongside her husband Norman. This busy lady also enjoyed the company of her friends at the Red Hat Society and participated in community events. For many years Irma and Norman travelled to interesting destinations in the US and Europe. Irma knew her history very well and loved to share stories of their adventures. Family and friends were the most important aspect of her life. She cherished her children, grandchildren and great granddaughter with her whole heart. Irma will be greatly missed by her family and lovingly remembered for the many ways she enriched their lives. Thank you to the very dear Sun Country Health Region Home Care staff, Val and her team at Weyburn Day Respite, Weyburn General Hospital staff, and Dr. Katie Fong, Dr. Philip Fong, and Dr. Omosigho for so tenderly caring for her in her later years. The family would like to express our sincere gratitude to Eunice and her staff at Hillview Manor in Estevan for their genuine kindness and compassion in caring for Mom. A funeral service was held from Zion Lutheran Church, Weyburn, on Monday, February 10 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Martin Olson and Marjorie McLeod CLA officiating. Interment followed at Green Acres Memorial Gardens, Weyburn.
