Irene Nyhus passed away with family by her side on February 4, 2014 at the age of 94. Irene was born November 8,1919 at Hondo, AB, the ninth child of 12 born to Ralph and Anna Worthing. She married Ted Nyhus on August 11, 1938 at Hondo. She and Ted had a number of moves with his job for the Sask. Wheat Pool until settling in Moose Jaw in 1947. Irene was a very talented musician, playing the piano, organ, accordion and the banjo, all by ear. Ted would play the violin and they both had lovely singing voices, entertaining many people over the years. During many of these events Irene was torn between playing and dancing, as she loved to do both. Mom and dad both had a strong faith in God and influenced all of their children with this faith. They were strong supporters of the co-operative movement and the CCF/NDP, trying hard to instill these ideologies in their children. Mom took great pride in her homemaking abilities, excelling at cooking, baking and gardening, canning and freezing tons of produce over the years. Many people would stop to admire her flowers, even in recent years. You always knew you could count on mom, wherever and whenever she was needed. Irene was predeceased by her parents and all of her siblings, her husband Ted in 1995, her long-time friend and companion, Darl Hicks in 2012 and one granddaughter in 1967. Irene will be sadly missed by her children, Gwen Stewart - Regina Beach, Ted Jr. - Victoria, BC, Thelma (Lucien) Painchaud - Moose Jaw, Laurie (Sarah) - Valleyview, AB, Shelly (Brian) Garner - Moose Jaw, 16 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and nine great great grandchildren. A private celebration of Irene's life will be held for the family with interment at a later date. In living memory of Irene, a memorial planting will be made by W.J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
