Hildur Sapphire Parry, late of Weyburn, passed away April 15, 2013, at the age of 88 years. Hildur was predeceased by her husband, Robert "Bud" Parry (1979); her parents, Eric and Astrid Olson; sister, Phyllis Matthews; numerous brothers and sisters-in-law. Hildur is survived by her children: Garth (Ginger) Parry, Lorna (Robert) Bakke, Crystal Stonehouse, Jewel (Louis) Prenevost; 17 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren; brother, Maurice (Kathy) Olson, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Hildur Sapphire Parry, nee Olson, was born on a farm in the Bures district to Eric and Astrid (Krogsgaard) Olson on September 12, 1924. She attended primary school at Querrin, a one room country school. She took most of her high school by correspondence but was able to convince her parents to allow her to take her Grade 12 in Ogema. She graduated high school at a young age and went on to Normal School in Regina. Her first love was teaching. She taught in many country schools teaching children, many of whom were the same age or older than her. At times it was difficult for her to find the balance by which she could enjoy herself as a teenager with them on outings yet maintain the control needed in the classroom. She met her husband Robert (Bud) Parry while teaching at one of these country schools. They were married on October 24, 1945. Her teaching career was interrupted as child rearing responsibilities took precidence as their four children arrived. She taught continuously from shortly after Jewel's birth until the end of the 1982-83 school year. Her career spanned up to three generations of students, as many of the students she taught nearing the end of her career were the grandchildren of students she taught at the beginning. In 1987 she moved from the family farm near Ogema to Graystone Manor in Weyburn where she resided until March 2013 when she moved into Eden Homes. Hildur was very active in the Superannuated Teacher's Association, Weyburn Special Care Home Auxiliary, Wheatland Senior's Center, and the Church of Christ. A funeral service for Hildur was held on Tuesday, April 23 at 2:00 p.m. from McKenna Hall, Weyburn with Ray McMillan, officiating. Interment followed at Green Acres Memorial Gardens, Weyburn.
