Herbert Allen Gordon, late of Midale, passed away on January, 12, 2013 at the age of 78 years. He was predeceased by his three children: Sandra, Peggy and Timothy; his parents: Alex and Rogna Gordon; brother, John Gordon; his in-laws, Joe and Hazel Winter. Herb is survived by his wife, Helene Gordon, Midale; his son Tom Gordon, Weyburn and his daughters, Tylere and Rhian; two brothers: Malcolm (Shirley) Gordon, Regina, Roy (Colleen) Gordon, Regina; sister-in-law, Marion (Robert) Meyers, Estevan; brother-in-law, Robert (Linda) Winter, Weyburn as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Herb was born on the farm north of Halbrite on April 12, 1934 to Alex and Rogna Gordon. He attended school at one room country schools, Crow Lake and St. Elmo, until Grade 10. He then stayed home to help with farming. On July 11, 1959, he and Helene Winter were married at the St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church. Together they farmed for 50 years. Herb also worked for Co-op Hail as an adjustor for 30 years. He was councillor for the R.M. of Cymri from 1979-1982 and Reeve from 1983-1994 for a total of 16 years. He was also Chairman of the Midale Hospital Board for a number of years and was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Herb enjoyed woodworking until the sawdust bothered him too much. Herb and Helene were married for 53 years. Together they enjoyed spending time in Texas in the winter, where many friends were made. Service of Remembrance for Herb was held on Thursday January 17 at 1:00 p.m. from St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Weyburn with Pastor Doug Loden and Fr. Gerry Bauche, officiating. Interment followed at Halbrite Cemetery, Halbrite. All in attendance at the service were considered Honorary Pallbearers.
