Helen Edith Sweeney passed away peacefully at the Radville Marian Health Centre on Friday, August 16, 2013 at the age of 93 years. She was predeceased by her parents, Oliver and Clarissa Wheeler; infant grandson, Erik James; husband, James Sweeney and brother, Wilf Wheeler. Helen was born in Weyburn on January 26, 1920, residing in Weyburn all of her life, until her move to Radville in 2011. She received her grade 12 at the Weyburn Collegiate and in 1943 she graduated as a psychiatric nurse from the Weyburn Mental Hospital. When WWII broke out she enlisted in the armed services, working at various locations in Canada. Following the war Helen returned to Weyburn and worked many years at the Weyburn Mental Hospital. She married James Sweeney and together they raised three children. Family was important to her and she took great joy in her grandchildren and recently her great grandson. Helen had many hobbies and interests. For many years she spent summers at White Bear Lake with her children creating many fond memories. She enjoyed bowling, was an avid reader and loved to crochet, knit and sew. Helen also spent many hours volunteering at the Legion, earning a lifetime membership with the Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed following curling and especially the Roughriders. She leaves to mourn her passing, her daughter, Linda (Leonard) Olson of Weyburn, and their children, Greg and Sean Olson; daughter, Leslee (Jim) Gabriel of Radville, and their children, Jennifer (Andrew) Keen and their son, Nathan and Steven Gabriel; her son, Bruce (Donna) Olson of Regina, and their children, Mathew and Denise. Helen's family wishes to thank the Doctors and staff at the Radville Marian Health Centre for the excellent care given to their mother. A special thank you to the staff at Fletcher Funeral Chapel for the care and understanding received at this time. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, August 19, from St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church with Father Gerry Bauche celebrating. Interment took place at Green Acres Memorial Gardens, Weyburn. Donations in memory of Helen may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Condolences may be left at www.fletcherfuneralchapel.com.
