Born December 24, 1928 in the Weyburn Disrict and attended school in North Weyburn/Conor area. He married Maude Hesby, October 16, 1951 at Calvary Baptist Church, Weyburn. He worked at various jobs before starting work in 1950 for the Saskatchewan Government (Department of Highways) as a heavy equipment operator. In 1961 he was promoted to Bituminous (Blacktop Supervisor), in charge of five crews, covering 900 km, including Ceylon, Oungre, Estevan, Stoughton and two out of Weyburn. In 1987, with 36 years, 288 days, and being offered early retirement, he decided to retire. Greg enjoyed sports, including hardball and hockey. He coached the minor leagues when his sons played. He liked doing landscaping and grooming the yard, always striving to obtain a beautiful, well-manicured lawn and making flower beds for Maude to fill. Travelling, doing crossword puzzles and watching the various cloud formations were some of the things he took interest in. The eagle was his favourite bird. Greg certainly enjoyed his grandchildren, including watching their sports activities. The girls were always quick to climb onto his lap and give him a new hairdo! He was always willing to help Glen, Dwain and the grandchildren when their cars needed a little work. The Gathers' Gospel singing group was his favourite thing to watch and listen to on Friday nights. Calvary Baptist Church Pastor, congregation and the play school kids meant a lot to him, as well as him to them. He served on the building committee, always striving to make it the best it could be. Over the years he battled numerous health issues, but he never gave up. The last month of his life he spent receiving dialysis treatments in Regina General Hospital, after his kidneys had shut down completely. He will be immensely missed by all of his family and friends. However, loved ones will rejoice one day again, when they will reunite with him in heaven.
