Gordon, husband of Dorothy Johnston, passed away peacefully on Sunday January 24, 2016. He was predeceased by his parents William (1954) and Jane (1958) Johnston, his son Lloyd (2010), son-in-law David Struble (2006) his granddaughter Tanya (1974). He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 68 years, Dorothy, daughter-in-law Marlene and her family Brent (Amy) James, Jordana, Eric; Brad (Nicole) Aven, Lexi; daughter Lois Struble (Larry Cronan) and her family Darryl (Laura) Arianna, Cordell, Daisha; George (Wendy) Eddie; Genelle (John) Champ Brayden, Brodie, Brooklyn; sister-in-law Betty Trembley, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Dad was born December 23, 1922 at Gapview, Saskatchewan raised on the farm until his early teens when the family moved to Fillmore.  He served in WWII and while in Italy was wounded. On Nov 20, 1947 he married Dorothy McDonald and they bought some land at Creelman and raised their children. Dad drove the school bus for a couple of years, delivered propane around the country, worked in the Creelman Coop, bought and helped run the Creelman Café until a buyer could be found. Dad was a member of the Legion. He served on the local school board and the Agricultural Society. He was on the village council, the hall board and the 55 Club, a leader of the 4H club, which led to a number of years raising Black Angus cattle and showing them at fairs around the country. In 1970 they sold the farm and started a new journey of working for other farmers, Mankota, Glentworth, Durban, Manitoba, Handsworth, Corning and Creelman areas and for the VanStavern families for eigh years.  Square dancing and travel became their pass time and they took 18 bus tours and a trip to Hawaii, making many friends along the way.  They managed quite well in their own home with the help of many friends but do to health problems Dad spent almost a year in the Fillmore Health Center, where the staff took great care of him. A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, January 30, at 2:00 p.m. from St. Andrew’s United Church, Creelman, with Worship Leader Gary Keefe. Interment will take place at Golden Gates Cemetery, Creelman, at a later date. Donations in memory of Gordon may be made to St. Andrew’s United Church or Fillmore Health Centre.
