Gerald Irvin Mowrey

Gerry passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at Tatagwa Nursing Home in Weyburn at the age of 88. Gerry was predeceased by his wife Helen in 2011; son Glen; daughter Linda; parents Leo and Rosie Mowrey; siblings Wesley Mowrey and Bernice Ward. Gerry is survived by his son Gary (Joanne) Mowrey; son-in-law John Penfold; grandchildren Geri Zajanski, Julie (Rob) Konowalchuk, James (Denise) Penfold, Mark (Tammy) Mowrey and Todd (Tereen) Mowrey; 10 great grandchildren and siblings Morley Mowrey, Dorothy Casler and Lois Mantei. Gerald was born in 1924 on a farm north of Milestone. He attended Milestone and Hendrickson Schools. In 1943 he went to Regina and took a course in welding and machine work. He returned to Milestone in 1945 and worked for Milestone Coop. In 1946 Gerry and Helen were married and lived just outside of Milestone, where they raised their family. In 1952 Gerry took up farming and worked for Milestone School Unit in the winter months for several years. In 1975 they moved into Milestone and continued farming until 1980. After retirement, they spent many winters in the southern states and enjoyed camping and fishing trips in the summer. Gerry was always interested in sports and attended and participated in many ball tournaments and sport days in the summer, then curling and hockey games in the winter. Right up to his last days, you would always find him watching some kind of sport on his TV. We'll all miss him dearly. To honor Gerry's wish there will be no funeral service. Family and friends wishing to make donations in Gerry's memory may make them to a charity of their choice. Family would like to thank Tatagwa House #4 staff and Dr. Philip Fong for their kindness and care given to Gerry during his stay.
