It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of L. George Sheppard late of Regina, formerly of Pangman on April 5, 2013. George had been a resident of the Wascana Rehab Veterans Affairs Unit for the last five years. George was born in Pangman on January 27, 1920. He was in the Canadian Army in WWII and served in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. After returning to Pangman from his time in the service, he married and raised his family in the hometown that he loved, and served to protect. He enjoyed his lifetime occupation of farming for many years. George is survived by his children; David (Rowene) Sheppard of Puebla, Mexico, John (Debbie) Sheppard of Pangman, Ruth (Gerald) Nygren of Puebla, Mexico, and Paul (Brenda) Sheppard of Okotoks, Alberta. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Michael (Darling) Sheppard, Jason (Jenn) Sheppard, Juel Sheppard, Simon (Luisa) Nygren, Joel Nygren, Roselyn (David) Deathe, Tim (Heather) Sheppard, Melissa (Jared) Byer, his eight great grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Mary Sheppard, his wife Margaret of 47 years, his wife Rachel of 13 years, his granddaughter Arlene Joy Sheppard, his sisters; Jean Hutton and Mary Dennison, and his brothers; James, David and Arthur. Dad served on many Boards over the years with Royal Canadian Legion, Pangman Rural Telephone Company, Pangman Co-op Association, R.M. of Norton, Pangman Chamber of Commerce, Trossachs Gospel Camp, Bethel Mission Assembly, and others. He also diligently participated in the annual Terry Fox Run. For several years after dad retired from active farming, he would go to visit everyone at the local hospital daily. Dad was quick to volunteer, and helped with various projects in the community. He also counted it an honour to be the Caretaker of the local cemetery. Dad confessed his faith in Christ as a young child, and never wavered in his faith. Dad was a very thankful person and always talked to others about his faith in Christ. He was noted for this even to his final days. He loved to tell people that Jesus is coming soon, and he was faithful in attendingany and all services being held at Bethel Mission, and Trossachs Camp. Dad was a man who made a lifestyle of spending time praying for, and caring for others. We want to express our sincere thanks to the staff and care givers at Wascana Rehab Veterans Affairs Unit 3-6 for their love and care of our Father/Grandfather/Great Grandfather over the last five years. Their genuine concern and devotion to providing a loving atmosphere for all the veterans living there is exemplary. Thank you very much. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday June 28, at Abundant Living Center in Pangman for all who wish to attend. A time of lunch and fellowship will follow.
