George Robert Gutheil, of Weyburn, formerly of Lang, born November 22, 1916 (SE 36-10-19 West of 2nd) passed away November 8, 2012. George is predeceased by his parents, William Earle and Maybelle (Gusk) Gutheil; wife, Eleanor (Somerville) Gutheil; four brothers, Floyd, Harold, Ralph and Clarence Gutheil and sisters and brothers-in-law, Melrose Gutheil, Jean Gutheil, Dorothy and Jim Bradley, Jack Somerville, Florence and Howard (Buck) Cook; Laura and Gaylord Goin and Margaret and Doug Rapson. George will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Sharon (Richard) Schaeffer of Lake Country, BC and children, Rob (Danielle) and Ethan and Carmen, Cathy Schaeffer and Jeff (Jill Becker) and Alexis; Judy Gutheil (Marvin Treleaven) of Lang, and children, Jordy (Sarah) Grassick, Jessie Grassick (Jeff Weeks) and their father, Brian Grassick; Nancy (Brad) Fritz) of Saskatoon, SK and children, Ellen and Stephen; brother, Glen (Audrey) Gutheil of Temecula, CA; sisters-in-law, Gwen Gutheil of Weyburn, and Goldie Somerville of Regina, as well as many nieces and nephews. George was active in the village of Lang as a councillor and mayor, school trustee, several years as a member of the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool and 40 years as a credit union director. He also participated in local sports and community activities such as baseball, curling, square and round dancing, bridge and the Lang Sunshine Club. George was a long time United Church member serving on the board of stewards, as a trustee and choir member. He was a Past Noble Grand I.O.O.F, Past Master D.D.G.M. of the Masonic Order. George was the Municipal Health Representative for the Village of Lang, representative to the Weyburn Special Care Home and the Â鶹ÊÓƵeast Library Association. He was a member of the Regina Musicians Association No. 446 local of American Federation of Musicians. Farming was George's main occupation. He was a member of the Canadian Seed Growers Association since 1958. He was employed at Muzik's General Store for one and a half years in the 1950's. George was especially proud of his three daughters and stressed to them the importance of further education. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in a wide variety of activities. When asked to describe himself he would say, "I am a musician by choice, a farmer out of necessity and a family man out of love." The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. P. Fong and all of the staff at the Weyburn Special Care Home where George resided. A funeral service was held Thursday, November 15 at 2:00 PM from Lang Hall, Lang with Reverend M. Barnabas officiating. Interment took place at Lang Cemetery, Lang. Donations in memory of George may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or a charity of the donor's choice.
