Gary Duane Mowrey, late of Weyburn, passed away Monday, February 15, 2016 in the Weyburn General Hospital after a long hard fought battle with cancer, at the age of 65. Gary was predeceased by his father and mother: Gerald and Helen Mowrey; sister Linda Penfold; little brother Glen; grandparents: Leo and Rosie Mowrey, Hjalmer and Minda Braaten, and father-in-law Jim Wallace. Gary is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Joanne; son Mark (Tammy) Mowrey, son Todd (Tereen) Mowrey; grandchildren: Ryder, Tyler, Carys, Grayden and step-grand daughter Carlie; brothers-in-law: Jerry Wallace, John Penfold; mother-in-law聽 Helen Wallace, as well as numerous nieces,聽 nephew, relatives and friends. Gary was born October 5, 1950. He grew up on a farm just outside of Milestone.聽 That farm yard was shared with his aunt, uncle and cousins, the Renwicks. The kids grew up as siblings and there were lots of fond memories from those days. After graduating high school in Milestone, he attended tech school in Moose Jaw; rumour was that the socializing was fun but the stay was short lived. He headed home to Milestone and shortly after, east to Sudbury, ON for a job in the mines. Then back home again; this is when his and Joanne鈥檚 courtship began. He worked at Milestone Co-op, then headed to Pilot Butte to a feed lot. Gary married Joanne in 1972 and made their first home in Regina, next there was a move to Thompson, MB where Gary worked in the nickel mine; this was a short stay, north was very cold and most of all Joanne (and him too) were very home sick, so back to Regina and a job at Coca-Cola. While in Regina, first son Mark was born in 1973. Gary and Joanne bought a home in Milestone in 1974 and Gary commuted to Regina for a few years.聽 Second son Todd was born in 1976; those two boys were highlights of his life and he was so proud of them both. Milestone School Unit was his next stop, and it was then that his love for carpentry began. In 1980 made a move to Weyburn, where there were a few more stops, some lumber yards, Home Hardware, and some carpentry jobs which was always his love. Last job was Sun Country Health as a carpenter; loved the job and all the co-workers, thanks to all of them and their support through his illness. First grandchild arrived in 2004. There were three more; they completed his life, and were all so special to him. Always said there was nothing better than being a grandpa. Gary had a love for sports, curling, fast ball, slow pitch, golf, and after his health started failing went back to fishing, which he spent a lot of time doing with his family in earlier years. He said he found it so peaceful. A Service of Remembrance for Gary was held on Saturday, February 20, from RD Family Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, with Reverend M. Barnabas officating. A private Family Interment was held at Green Acres Memorial Gardens, Weyburn.聽 Lunch was held following the interment at Grace United Church.
