Evan was born July 1, 1930 on the homestead farm, in the home his father built in 1929. Evan was privileged to farm lands his father and grandfather homesteaded, raise a family with Mary and live there for nearly 80 years. He was proud to be a farmer of the land and earth that provided so much for his family and to sustain a way of life that his children benefited so much from. Evan attended Grand Bend School, Ralph School, Weyburn Collegiate and Outram Agricultural Vocational School. In the winters he enjoyed playing hockey in a farmer’s league and with the Midale Mustangs. In 1958, Evan met Mary Nagy, a Grey Nuns School of Nursing graduate and in 1959 they married and started their family. Evan and Mary devoted themselves to their family, enjoying farm life, their community friendships, church family and later as their family grew, time with their grandchildren. In their free time they enjoyed trips to places all around the world including many winters with their Yuma, AZ friends. Evan was involved in a number of organizations throughout his life: Weyburn Co-op board, Federated Co-op, RM of Weyburn Agriculture committee, Grand Bend Telephone Company, District #7 Agriculture board, Wheat Pool committee, Queen Elizabeth central board, and Masonic Lodge #20. He was also involved with the Home and School Association, Weyburn Music Auxiliary, Minor Hockey coaching and in recent years, singing with the Variations.  Evan was a life-long member of the Calvary Baptist Church and served on many boards there. When he wasn’t farming, he kept his keen mind engaged through business ventures both in Weyburn and abroad with family members. A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, January 27 at 2:00 p.m. from the Calvary Baptist Community Church with Rev. Greg Charyna officiating. Lunch will be held at the McKenna Hall, Weyburn.
