Ethel Toeppner, late of Stoughton, passed away December 25, 2015 at the age of 94 years. Ethel was predeceased by her parents: Varo and Robert Coleman; mother and father in-law: Edith and Robert Toeppner; sisters: Violet Wright, Priscilla (Edwin) Wright, Ursula (Mike) Hovland, Laverne (Ken) Mott; brother Frank Coleman; brother-in-law Art Mahnke; sisters-in-law: Muriel (Ken) Kerr, Wilma (Ken) Huff. Ethel is survived by her husband Louis Toeppner; sister Lavica Mahnke; sister-in-law Eva Coleman; nieces, nephews and spouses: Francis Wright, Violet Murray, Emily Bothom, Cecile Blackhurst, Carmen Wright, Ila and Wayne Johnston, Lyle and Eileen Wright, Gordon Hovland, Norman and Eleanor Hovland, Carol Kramble, Bill and Karen Coleman, Jolyn and Mervin MacDonald, Chris and Mark Thorn, Robert Coleman, Morris and Raymonde Mott, Darwin and Gail Mott, Vernon Mott, Ron and Lois Mahnke, Cecil and Ellen Huff, Debbie Huff, Brenda (John Hallam) Kerr and Joan Kerr. Ethel was born on the home farm near Froude. She attended Hudmore, a country school for her elementary grades, then Central Collegiate in Regina for high school. After graduating she attended Regina Normal School for one year and then began her teaching career of over thirty years. After teaching two years, she joined the Air Force; she was stationed in Ottawa, ON, for six months then transferred to Saskatoon for one year. The highlight of her air force was playing second base for the ladies fastball team. After her discharge she attended Saskatoon University for two years then back to teaching. She taught in Stoughton High School for 27 years. She always had a keen interest in her students both in the classroom and their chosen careers. After retirement, Ethel did a lot of crafts, especially crocheting. She also grew a large garden which she shared with many, as well as canning and freezing. Ethel remained active in the United Church still singing in the choir. Ethel went into Newhope Pioneer Lodge in the spring of 2013. Although she seemed more frail each day, her mind was sharp to the very end. Direct cremation has taken place.
